@anaesthetic_spr I’m a critical care outreach nurse and it’s absolutely appropriate for us to hold crash bleeps alongside medical staff, and using that particular example in the same paragraph as “very concerning” doesn’t reflect the message you seem to want to convey.
Proud of my job/role. Teams of CCOT ANP’s provide evidenced based safe care when in structured roles working in scope. We work alongside MDT’s we provide support to junior staff. Don’t believe me just ask in the internet the evidence is out there. Time to shift this toxicity.
@DrNeenaJha Ok that makes sense, but in that case pulling a job of adverts doesn’t support this position. Which of those are direct replacements? All of them, some? I am
happy to call myself a nurse (nurse practitioner or whatever befits my role and reg) 1/2
@DrNeenaJha …this being said- we routinely catch medical errors/omissions & that’s ok! That is also part of my job. It feels like there is a lot of ego on both sides of this discussion that we need to park. For my team at least (CCOT) advanced practice is good for patient safety.
@DrSharandeep I am a trainee ACP (nurse) working in CCOT. My job is in no way a replacement for medics, we make patients safer because we understand what it is to nurse deteriorating patients. There is a place for us.
@DrEilidhMaria@smitz_max Also rather unkind to say ‘merely’ in this context. “Just a nurse” (which is what the words you wrote mean), isn’t fair. I’m a critical care outreach nurse and I catch complexities missed by medics regularly (for various reasons that I’m not judgy of). I’m not ‘merely’ anything.
@DrEilidhMaria@smitz_max Agree it’s problematic that no specific regulation exists, but there are national standards. It’s a little jarring that doctors are happy with nurses doing bits of their job (IVs for example, used to be within the medical remit)…but not others how do we measure risk/complexity
