From Vienna Airport to Ofer Prison to the two Hussams, that was the morning of August 28, 2025. It was my eighth visit to Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, followed by a visit to Hussam Zaher, Dr. Hussam’s nephew, who is held in the same prison. Both of them are exposed to sunlight for only thirty minutes a month, while scabies and boils ravage their bodies, and they remain in the same clothes. As for bathing, it lasts only two minutes, and they have each lost a third of their body weight. They are in dire need of dermatologists and medicines to treat the widespread skin diseases and infections.

As for Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s most recent message, he said: “I entered in the name of humanity, and I will leave in the name of humanity. I am the one who was abducted from inside the hospital. We will remain on our land and continue to provide healthcare services to the people, God willing, even from a tent.”

🚨 Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s life is in immediate danger.

Physicians for Human Rights–Israel (PHRI) has issued an urgent warning that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, is facing an immediate threat to his life following a visit by his lawyer, Nasser Odeh, to the underground interrogation unit “Rakefet” inside Nitzan Prison.

According to his lawyer, Dr. Abu Safiya was brought to the visit handcuffed and shackled, bearing fresh injuries and bruises to his head, face, and neck. He was struggling to breathe and speak, appeared severely exhausted, and was on the verge of losing consciousness several times. He also reported being subjected to daily assaults, losing consciousness repeatedly, and being denied adequate medical treatment.

He told his lawyer: “This is the last time you will see me… They brought me here to kill me. I do not see myself leaving here alive. This is the end.”

PHRI is calling for his immediate transfer from this unit, an independent urgent medical examination, and his immediate release along with all healthcare workers detained without charge or trial.

Time is running out. Save Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya before it’s too late.

🚨حياة الدكتور حسام أبو صفية في خطرٍ داهم.

حذّرت جمعية أطباء لحقوق الإنسان (PHRI) من أن الدكتور حسام أبو صفية، مدير مستشفى كمال عدوان، يواجه خطرًا فوريًا على حياته، وذلك بعد زيارة محاميه الأستاذ ناصر عودة له في قسم التحقيقات تحت الأرض “راكيفيت” داخل سجن نيتسان.

بحسب شهادة المحامي، ظهر الدكتور حسام وهو مقيّد اليدين والقدمين، ويعاني من إصابات وكدمات حديثة في الرأس والوجه والرقبة، مع صعوبة في التنفس والكلام، وحالة إنهاك شديدة جعلته على وشك فقدان الوعي أكثر من مرة. كما أكد أنه يتعرض لاعتداءات يومية، وفقد الوعي عدة مرات، ولم يتلقَّ العلاج الطبي اللازم.

وقال لمحاميه: “هذه آخر مرة ستراني فيها… لقد أحضروني إلى هنا لكي يقتلوني. لا أرى نفسي حيًا. هذه هي النهاية.”

تطالب جمعية أطباء لحقوق الإنسان بنقله فورًا من هذا القسم، والسماح بإجراء فحص طبي مستقل وعاجل، والإفراج عنه وعن جميع الأطباء المحتجزين دون تهمة أو محاكمة.

الوقت ينفد… أنقذوا الدكتور حسام أبو صفية قبل فوات الأوان.
