@BCNature Avian flu is a disease primarily of waterfowl, poultry, and the birds that feed on, scavenge, or associate with them. It is NOT being spread at songbird feeders according to those monitoring the situation.
@BCNature All of the authorities--Canada Food Inspection Agency, Environment Canada, Canadian and US Centres for Disease Control have said there is no need to remove feeders unless you have poultry. What is your source that has proven otherwise?
I've joined the Rocky Pointers for the 2021 Great Canadian Birdathon in support of Rocky Point Bird Observatory and BIRDS CANADA. If you can support me by a donation, here's the link: https://t.co/MbpUHRBgRx If you'd rather make me work for it on a per bird basis, let me know!
@ErikWdV I have no problem paying to support parks, but not by instituting a parking fee. Bump up property owners' CRD taxes by a few dollars, and done! Parking, paid for by the people who can afford to buy houses in Victoria. I don't mind paying more to cover those who can't.
@GregorCraigie @VictoriaNHS Robins are pretty flexible when it comes to food. Earthworms, apples still on the tree, grubs, etc. are all suitable food. We have TONS of robins and thrushes (including at least one rare Asian visitor) in the area right now.
@ewas2 @VictoriaNHS Agree with Victoria Natural History Society. American Goldfinches. Surprising to see them this colour already! Which neighbourhood was this?
We're continuing 50 hashtags for the ABA's 50th Anniversary! #ABA50
Do you have a #birdingmentor? Who helped you find your way as a birder when you were just getting started?
@ABA Alan MacLeod in Victoria, BC, took a group of co-workers on a bird walk, promising to "knock our socks off". He came through, identifying birds by their songs! Who knew? Most of us with him that day went on to include birding as an important part of our lives. #birdingmentor
We're doing 50 hashtags in 50 weeks for the #ABA50 Year Anniversary!
This week, what's your #nemesisbird? What is the species that has defied all your efforts to find it?
