It’s interesting to me that @Larryferlazzo writes about the importance of saying students’ names correctly in the #MotivationHandbook. He says that our brains have “strong reactions” to hearing our names. I imagine this is bc a person’s name is the one thing they have consistently heard since birth.

Play is the work of kids. It’s not just running around and yelling. Play helps kids solve problems, negotiate with others, and develop self-regulation skills. When recess is reduced or omitted, you are taking away the learning of significant and necessary skills.
Some students go an entire day at school without anyone saying their name. Be the adult who speaks to each student by name.
Everyone loves to hear their name.
