Honored to share today's @ICRC statement to the #UNGA First Committee. The human cost of #conflits is appalling, but #Disarmament is an effective tool to prevent war & mitigate their impact. States need to redouble their efforts to protect civilians. #IHL

That’s a wrap from #GCF2025 in #Riyadh✅
The @ICRC footprint? Putting the humanitarian voice at the center of cyber talks — from tackling harmful narratives and protecting civilians in war to shaping policy and diplomacy for a safer digital future. @gcfriyadh
Excellent conversations at the #GCF2025 here in #Riyadh over the last two days on how #IHL protect civilians and infrastructure against cyber operations, and how the #DigitalEmblem project we are leading can help hospitals being spared from digital harm.
From Riyadh at the @gcfriyadh , we’re putting the humanitarian perspective at the heart of cyber debates. As warfare goes digital, attacks on hospitals, water, and power threaten civilians first. The ICRC is here to push for rules, partnerships, and solutions that protect people — not just systems.
Stay tuned for more from #GCF2025 through a human lens on cybersecurity.
Last year, Brazil, China, France, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Africa, and the ICRC launched the Global Initiative on humanitarian law. They now call to end IHL violations and announce their plan to hold a 2026 high-level meeting to uphold humanity in war.

At #ECOSOC HAS, DG @EdvinSkrt delivered a joint cross-regional statement on behalf of 🇩🇿🇨🇷🇸🇱🇸🇮: co-chairs of the Global IHL Initiative’s workstream on protection of civilian infrastructure.@ICRC
Backed by 55+ cosponsors, a clear call to uphold IHL and protect what matters most.
We must uphold, not weaken, international humanitarian law & the vision of a mine-free world.
Statement by @ICRC, @ifrc & Red Cross Societies of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden on withdrawal from the Mine Ban Convention:

.@ICRC pleased to see #CCMISM25 statements upholding #HumanitarianDisarmament & @ISUCCM Convention norms, calls on States to help raise awareness on #IHL as essential to safeguarding humanity.
This week, ICRC teams supported a medical transfer with @PalestineRCS and increased water access for displaced people in the north of Gaza.
But the needs continue increasing for civilians.
More must be done.
Civilians are the main victims of anti-personal #mines, children paying the highest price. There can be no justification for using such indiscriminate weapons.
As we join the 5th #APMBC Review Conference in #Cambodia, we reiterate our pressing call for a mine-free world.
Experts emphasized the vital role of satellite services on Earth in particular in the Pacific, ways to minimize the human cost of disruption by military operations, & how satellite services are used to aid humanitarian efforts including by @ICRC, the #RedCross & the #RedCrescent
If military operations disrupt #space systems such as navigation, communication, or remote-sensing #satellites, essential civilian services on Earth will be heavily impacted. At #RCRC24, the Side-Event on the Human Cost of Disrupting Satellite Services highlighted such concerns.
