A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳
Please say no to plastic grass. This ugly stuff removes food & shelter for wildlife including bees, butterflies & birds; has a high carbon footprint; sheds micro-plastics which wash into our rivers & seas. Create a wildlife-friendly space instead. More:

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 minutes between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or your garden or community green space could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝
Fruit trees benefit all sorts of wildlife, including bees, bats and birds. But around two thirds of UK orchards have been lost since 1960. Planting an apple tree in your garden or community can really help to boost biodiversity.

Around 1.7m pieces of plastic are binned in the UK every week. There are lots of eco-friendly soap bars that contain only natural ingredients, and many are plastic-free - so choosing bars instead of liquid handwash is one way to reduce plastic pollution.

There are 15,000+ species of fungi in the UK, & they play a vital role in healthy ecosystems. Provide a habitat for fungi – as well as for beetles & other invertebrates, hedgehogs & slow worms – by piling up logs or branches in a damp, shady corner.

Trees release compounds called phytoncides which can enhance mood and improve sleep. Phytoncides may even help prevent cancer. And native trees are brilliant for all sorts of wildlife - so let’s plant more trees, and cherish those we have already! 🌳

In the UK alone, around 300,000 tonnes of used clothes are binned each year. To help reduce this waste:

As the Government debates the selling of non commercial fireworks, maybe they could give a thought to the totally unnecessary use of fire lanterns.
As a farmer, I really wish people would stop releasing sky lanterns into our beautiful countryside. They might look pretty floating across the night sky, but what goes up must come down. And all too often, that means landing in our fields. Livestock can swallow sharp pieces hidden in their feed, become tangled in fallen frames or suffer terrible injuries. And that’s before we even consider the fire risk to crops, barns, wildlife and animal bedding. And please don’t be fooled by the word biodegradable. It doesn’t make them harmless.
Our countryside isn’t a dumping ground, and our animals shouldn’t have to suffer for a few moments of entertainment.
I would wholeheartedly support a UK-wide ban on sky lanterns. Would you?
Fake cobwebs like these may look spooky – but what's really scary about them is that they can trap & injure wildlife, including birds, insects & small mammals. And fake webs aren't recyclable – so will end up in landfill for many years.

One year since the ceasefire agreement, more than 1,400 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, nearly two million still need shelter, not a single hospital is fully functioning, and 1.4 million face crisis-level hunger.
Accountability cannot be swept under the rubble. The recovery and future of Gaza cannot be separated from a framework grounded in international law, justice, and the rights of victims.
The persistent failure to hold Israel accountable and press Israel to comply with the International Court of Justice’s binding orders continues to fuel the atrocity crimes on a mass scale against Palestinians.

Dear councils, 97% of UK meadows are gone. So if you have wildflowers like ox-eye daisies on roadverges and in public spaces, don't spray them with weedkiller or over-mow them. Let's give pollinating insects like bees and butterflies a chance 🐝

Mind the gap! Creating a hole at the base of a fence helps create wildlife corridors, allowing creatures to move from one green space to another. Hedgehogs, for example, travel up to 2 miles each night in search of food – so they need room to roam 🦔
