" China, too, has used renaming as a tool of imperial erasure, particularly in Tibet, where it has sought to replace the globally recognized name “Tibet” with “Xizang." A good read on China's colonial strategy of renaming.

Incredible news: Volkswagen will fully divest from Xinjiang, sell both plant and test track.
A huge victory for the Uyghur cause.
This comes after our work exposed forced labor linked to the test track, and the faulty factory audit.
First my serious objections to a scholar from South Africa calling #Tibet Xizang! She is using this term used by Chinese to rename a country that has been in existence and has a distinct culture and language for thousands of years! Second, when will people like Lloyd Kuveya realise that they are supporting the propaganda of an autocratic regime and ignoring the millions of people who have been colonised! @tibet_policy@freetibetorg@DalaiLama@SikyongPTsering

The #Chinese government forcefully shut down Gangjong Sherig Norbu School, a highly reputed 30-year-old Tibetan private school in Golog, Qinghai Province. A heartbreaking video from Tibet shows students in tears at the closing ceremony held earlier this morning.
recognizes the TAR and other areas of Tibet as part of China as opposed to what was originally proposed in the bill. What led to this change? What was that hooba-hoo of delegation about? Did we become a pawn (again)?

There was so much hope placed on the Tibet Resolve Act. Tibetans waited anxiously and earnestly for it to get signed by President Biden. But in reality, when it was signed today, the hope was out to be empty! The U.S.A. has NOT changed its stand, it still

This article I wrote for the @Diplomat_APAC sometime ago discusses the #CCP regime's insecurity concerning Tibetan monks & nuns. Xi Jinping always met monks/nuns during his visits to Tibet. This time is no different in Amdo @Tsongkha Monas

Tibetan monks & nuns are a big source of insecurity for the #CCP regime. They fear them for their loyalty, reverence and unshakeable belief in the #DalaiLama, & Tibetan Buddhism, & perceive them as a unifying force for common #Tibetans.
My meeting with the Dalai Lama last week clearly rattled Xi Jinping. He immediately ran to Tibet for a photo op to counter the message our visit sent — that democracy and freedom of religion will always prevail over oppression and autocracy.
NEWS: Today, I joined a bipartisan Congressional delegation to meet with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, India.

The Resolve Tibet Act enhances U.S. support for Tibet— empowering State Department officials to actively and directly counter disinformation about Tibet from the Chinese government, rejecting false claims that Tibet has been part of China since “ancient times,” pushing for
negotiations without preconditions between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama or his representatives or the democratically elected leaders of the Tibetan community, and affirming the State Department’s responsibility to coordinate with
