On the first day of Manipur Violence, a well planned and co-ordinated attack was carried out in Imphal, 23 Kuki localities in Imphal were burnt down and the next morning, thousands of radical Meitei groups along with Meira Paibis appeared in the borders of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur district burning down around 50 villages.

Meitei militias could not have undertaken such precise attacks in hundreds of places at one stroke without the state’s support.

As the CBI chargesheet reveals the involvement of @manipur_police in #ManipurViolence, the Kukis with angst of injustice relive the trauma of helplessness once again

May 3rd marks the forced separation, the inability of the dominant Meiteis to co-exist with the minority Kukis.

🔵The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader of Manipur, Barish Sharma, and hundreds of his supporters, many of whom were armed with guns, forcefully attempted to carry out afforestation in Thangting Hills, an area predominantly inhabited by the Kukis. The karyakartas from Imphal valley had forcefully trespassed the “Thangting” range on May 14, 2022. They were heavily armed and threatened the local villagers with dire consequences if they were not allowed to do so.

🔵The Kuki Chiefs’ Association (KCA) Churachandpur dubbed the action of the BJYM members led by its state president Barish Sharma as the “senseless display of power under the guise of tree plantation drive” at Thangjing range.

🔵M Barish Sharma has been sent to jail after he was arrested along with arms. Different Sections of IPC and Section 25 (1-C) of Arms Act have been invoked against him.

🔵Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal East Ashem Tarunakumari Devi ordered the superintendent of Manipur Central Jail, Imphal, to release Barish Sharma after a payment of Rs 50,000 personal bond.

𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟐,𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑:

🔵The police arrested him in connection with a case registered with the Imphal police station in connection with a shooting incident at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West on October 14 night, in which five persons including a woman were injured. Barish was charged with the Arms Act, violation of curfew, criminal intimidation, and attempted murder.

𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗,𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑:

🔵The Session Judge, Imphal West released Barish Sharma on interim bail for a month from Monday, by furnishing a PR bond Rs 1 lakh, to facilitate his medical treatment.
