The Shihtzu was found after being abandoned in the #Coytrahen area of #Bridgend #WALES , RSPCA Cymru has said.
A tiny dog was found "fly-tipped" in Bridgend with a heavily matted coat contaminated with faeces and nearly died. The shih tzu-type dog, who has since been affectionately named Patsy Pancake, was found on January 24 having been abandoned in the Coytrahen area, RSPCA Cymru has said.

The poorly pooch, who is around 10 years old, was spotted by a passer-by next to a hedge and taken to safety before the RSCPA were called.
It was "touch and go" whether she would survive but she has been nursed back to health and is currently being looked after by an RSPCA foster carer, the organisation said.

It has now launched an appeal for information about the dog and her owner. RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben, who has been investigating this incident along with deputy chief inspector (DCI) Gemma Cooper, said the dog was found on land that is known for fly-tipping -

DCI Cooper added: “It was touch and go as to whether she would survive but the staff at the vets have been incredible and they helped to make a miracle happen.” Keith added: “If anyone can help us with our inquiries and has first-hand information about this dog and who her owner was please do get in touch by calling 0300 123 8018 and can quote 01213820."@WalesOnline

February is the time of year when you'll start to see adult, mostly male hedgehogs who have been too sick to hibernate and have been struggling through winter, but are now succumbing to illness and starvation.
⚠️They will arrive at your feeding station or under your bird feeder looking frail and scruffy. A healthy hedgehog is well rounded and smooth.
⚠️You should never be able to see where their head ends and their body begins, or the shape of their shoulders when they walk or crouch in front of the food.
⚠️No amount of food will heal them, they need medical treatment from a rescue (never a vet).
If you see one of these poor boys, please get them to an experienced rescue urgently.

Oh gosh please never give hedgehogs mealworms, they are very harmful and will kill in a horribly painful way. The only safe food is cat or dog food. Dry kitten food is perfect, and plenty of clean water to drink. Thank you for kindly helping this poor starving little creature.❤️

It's so important this time of year to recognise the difference between:
a hedgehog who is seen out in the day because the nights are too short for her to sufficiently forage for her needs
and
a hedgehog who is seen out in the day because she is dying and desperately needs help.
