Congratulations to all of our graduating students at @UoM_EEE, who had their ceremony this evening. It was great to be able to join you with your celebrations. Sadly couldn't get a photo of you from the front (there were rules to follow) - you were all quite a sight though!
It was great to join around 35 of our UG students from @UoM_EEE yesterday for a hike around Lyme Park. I think we experienced a year's worth of weather conditions in a matter of hours, but it was great to see everyone make it round and still have a smile on their face!
Earlier today I was filling in a reference for an undergraduate student to join a major US university. It asked me to state the *total number of undergraduate students I've ever taught*. Why must we jump through these ridiculous hoops?! I'm not the one making the application here
Last week I had the pleasure of presenting the awards to the 2021-22 Embedded Systems Project race winners. Congratulations to all in Team 13 for their excellent performance, and who thoroughly deserve this recognition.
As we're all isolating with Covid, it looks like we are back to the days of 'lockdown learning'. Today is thermodynamics of mixing, with an introduction to entropy...
(Much to my dismay with the results)
@liv1493 It is tough when they get like that. Sadly there's no solid science behind any of this, you just have to keep trying until you find something that works. Soul destroying as it is. Will keep my fingers crossed for some snoozing soon.
@liv1493 Nature I'm afraid. Once they get past the point of tiredness there is some sort of reaction whereby they start to fight sleep even more and get into an over-tired frenzy. The worse news is that they don't grow out of that for years...
Top marks @northernassist. In your recent correspondence with me your justification of cutting peak time trains on the Buxton line to one per hour or fewer was to ensure you could provide a more resilient service with the limited crew you had. Glad to see this plan working well.
Today we made history with our final ESP Race in the Sackville Street Building. It was great to be able to invite everyone along after the difficulties of the last couple of years. Congratulations again to Group 13 on their amazing winning time! @UoM_EEE@UoMSciEng@OfficialUoM
After having to do things a little differently for the last two years it was great to be doing the Embedded Systems Project Race heats at @UoM_EEE with all our second years in attendance. Well done to all of you on your achievements. See you at the race on Thursday! @OfficialUoM
I have a funded #phd available in the area of developing electromagnetic sensor systems for security applications, starting Jul-Sep 2022. Funding covers a UK student for 3.5 years. Please get in touch for further information.
@liv1493 The christmas cat is a firmly established tradition. Jonah didn't even mention anything about PCR tests until we arrived; was fine afterwards. Though sadly he then got a bit upset that they had to cut the one we chose out of the ground.
You just can't win with toddlers.
