i asked Claude one thing this morning and it answered me with three notes i wrote five months ago and never opened again.
everything i've ever saved sits in one place now, and when i ask a question it doesn't search, it pulls the handful of old notes that actually touch what i asked into the same view. this morning i just wanted to know what to send a client. it handed me the thing i promised them in march, the note where i quietly changed my mind in june, and the exact day i flipped.
i didn't remember writing any of that, and that's the part that lands. no coworker keeps that kind of timeline on you, and no assistant that wants to be liked shows you the day you contradicted yourself. a folder of my own plain text did, and it doesn't care which version makes me look better.
the setup is almost nothing:
- everything lives in one folder as plain text
- Claude reads it before it answers, and only trusts its own cleaned-up version
- when two notes fight, it keeps both with the dates instead of picking the newer one
no cloud, no extra sub past the Claude you already pay for, and it does this quietly every morning before i'm even up.
i stopped opening it to get answers, and started opening it to find out what i already decided and forgot.

EVERY YELLOW DOT IN THE OUTER RING IS A NOTE THAT LINKS TO NOTHING. i had almost 700 of them and never knew.
this is my whole archive, and i didn't place a single dot. i pointed Claude at the folder once and told it to read every note and wire each one to whatever it actually relates to. the dense middle built itself. so did the lonely ring on the edge. that ring is every thought i saved once and never connected to anything again.
i didn't decide which notes were orphans. the folder did. no assistant that just wants to sound useful shows you the stuff you quietly abandoned. a pile of my own plain text did.
the setup is almost nothing:
- every note goes into one folder as plain text
- Claude reads it once, then thinks only from its own clean version
- one rule: when two notes disagree, keep both with the dates, never pick a side
no cloud, no new sub past the Claude you already pay for, and it redraws itself every morning on its own.
the pretty version makes you feel organized. this one shows you everything you forgot you wrote.
everyone posts one of these graphs like it's the flex. it isn't. the graph is the easy part, it only looks good sped up.
this is four years of my notes, and i didn't draw a single line on that screen. i pointed Claude at the folder once and told it to read everything and link each note to the ones it actually relates to. the whole picture built itself.
the part the pretty version hides: it also keeps the notes that disagree. when march-me and june-me wrote the opposite thing, it didn't pick one, it kept both with the dates and flagged the clash.
that's the gap between a wall of glowing dots and an actual second brain. one looks good on video. the other tells you when you're wrong.
the setup is almost nothing. a folder of plain text, Claude told to read it before it answers, and one rule about contradictions. then it just runs every morning on its own.
AN ANTHROPIC ENGINEER TOLD ME THE ONE RULE ALMOST NOBODY GIVES CLAUDE, AND IT'S WHY EVERYONE'S SETUP STAYS A YES-MAN
the rule is almost stupid. when two of your notes disagree, Claude isn't allowed to pick the newer one or smooth it over. it keeps both, stamps the dates, and flags the clash.
i didn't think it would matter. then i pointed it at four years of my own notes. march, in writing: this client is a nightmare, drop them. two months later, same client: our best account, protect at all costs. same folder, my own words, and i had no memory of flipping.
it stops feeling like a tool after that. no coworker keeps that receipt on you. no cofounder, no assistant that just wants to be helpful. a folder of plain text did, because one rule told it to.
the whole setup is that folder, Claude told to read it before it answers, and that single rule. thats it.
now it runs every morning and hands me the ones i'd rather not see. what i said twice. what i reversed and forgot. what i still owe someone.
turns out the smartest thing you can do with Claude isn't asking it better questions. its telling it to stop agreeing with you.

i left Claude alone with four years of my notes and went to bed.
woke up to a map. not a summary, a map. every note wired to the ones it actually related to, the duplicates i'd saved three times merged into one, and the two places where i'd argued the opposite thing months apart flagged with the dates. it quoted me back to myself.
i didn't ask for that last part, and thats the part that got me. no coworker keeps that receipt on you. no cofounder, no assistant that just wants to be liked. a folder of my own notes did.
the setup is almost nothing:

thats the whole thing. no cloud, no new sub past the Claude you already pay for, and it runs on its own every morning. wrote the full build up if you want to copy it.
it stopped feeling like a tool i open, and started feeling like something that remembers what i'd rather forget.
i gave Claude a folder of every note i've ever written, and within a day it used them to call me a liar.
not a bug, i told it to. one rule: read it all once, and when two things i wrote disagree, don't pick the nicer one, keep both with the dates. turns out i disagree with myself constantly, and i always kept the version where i came out clean.
here's the one that got me. march 3, in writing to a client: "yes we'll ship the export." me last week, same client: "that was never scoped." my own words, months apart. i wasn't lying on purpose, thats the scary part.
no coworker keeps that receipt on you. no cofounder, no assistant that just wants to be helpful. a folder of my own notes did, because i built it to.
now every morning it hands me the ones i'd rather not see. what i said twice. what i flipped on and forgot. what i still owe someone and buried.
it doesn't make me feel smart. it makes me a little less wrong. turns out those were never the same thing.

the most useless hour of my week was always the one right after a meeting
everyone hangs up sure something got decided. then it's on you to rebuild it. what did we agree. who owns what. what was that one thing someone said that nobody wrote down. half of it evaporates before you open a doc
so now the call ends and the transcript drops into one folder on its own. claude reads it once, pulls the decisions, the owners, the deadlines, and files them into the right project. nobody writes a recap again
then it does the part i never had time for. it checks the new against the old. this contradicts what we agreed three weeks ago. this task has no owner. these two deadlines collide
i don't try to remember meetings now. i ask what we decided and it answers with the date and who said it
a decision nobody writes down is just a conversation that felt productive
how much of what your team agreed to this quarter could anyone actually find
