IGAD in South Sudan

Today in Juba, IGAD Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Amb. @MoussaDjama11, met with the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Discussions focused on the Revitalised Peace Agreement and upcoming electoral processes in the Republic of South Sudan

As a guarantor of the Revitalized peace Agreement, IGAD remains actively engaged in advancing dialogue, building confidence among stakeholders, and supporting a democratic transition that reflects the aspirations of the people of South Sudan.

Strengthening Partnerships for Regional Integration

IGAD’s Economic Cooperation and Regional Integration Division (ECRID) continues to strengthen partnerships that advance trade, connectivity, and economic integration across the Horn of Africa.

ECRID convened GIZ, the Horn of Africa Initiative (HOAI), and representatives from Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Somalia to enhance collaboration on trade facilitation, AfCFTA implementation, infrastructure development, and innovation. Participants agreed to strengthen coordination and avoid duplication of efforts to maximize regional impact.

ECRID also met with Mr. Eugene Torero, Regional Director for HOAI & Rwanda, and Dr. Aicha, Country Director of TradeMark Africa (TMA) in Djibouti, to deepen cooperation on regional trade and corridor management. During the meeting, IGAD was invited to participate in the upcoming Africa Trade Forum, organized by the Government of Ethiopia and TMA.

Together, these partnerships are helping build a more connected, prosperous, and resilient Horn of Africa.

This morning, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, I had the honor of sharing a final moment with members of the Offices of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Commissioners, colleagues from various departments of the Commission, representatives of Member States, partners, and members of the diplomatic corps.

A moment of gratitude, as I embark on a new chapter in my commitment to serving the peace, security, and development of the continent.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf @ymahmoudali, for his trust and leadership.

I also extend my sincere thanks to all the staff of the Commission, as well as to the various partners of the African Union with whom I have had the privilege of working in the service of pan-African ideals, the aspirations of our continent, and the implementation of Agenda 2063.

A special thought goes to my two deputies as well as to all members of the Cabinet. I commend their professionalism, commitment, and sense of duty, which have been invaluable sources of support throughout this shared journey.

I would also like to extend my warmest congratulations to Dr. Yann Bedzigui on his appointment as Chief of Staff to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. I wish him every success in fulfilling this noble mission.
