More than 1.2 million illegal migrants applied for legal status under Pedro Sánchez’s new regularization program, more than double the government’s expected 500,000.

Immigration officials now warn that family reunification could eventually bring up to 3 million additional relatives to Spain, claiming that each successful applicant could later sponsor several family members.

Applicants had to show they were in Spain before January 1, had lived there continuously for at least five months and had no criminal record. Those approved will receive a one-year residence and work permit.

Officials also warned that shifting document checks away from the National Police could weaken fraud detection and allow criminal networks to exploit the process using false family relationships or forged documents.

Sánchez says the amnesty is an act of justice that will support economic growth. Spain’s opposition parties, PP and Vox, argue it will encourage further illegal immigration, while Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has raised concerns about its possible impact on the wider Schengen area.

Ful se je dobro pozicionirat kot nekdo, ki dela za narodov blagor. Ko te kdo vpraša za dokaze, če ima narod res kaj od tega, poveš, da se tvojih učinkov ne da meriti in če ne verjameš, si fašist. Potem te mora pa celotna družba financirat, da delaš karkoli te je volja, zraven imaš pa še občutek moralne superiornosti, ker si tudi samega sebe uspešno nalagal, kakšno herojsko delo opravljaš. Ko drugi hlastajo za dobički (aka morajo na trgu dobiti več prihodkov kot so imeli stroškov), je tvoj minus kronski dokaz, da delaš za ljudi in ne za kapital.

A Dutch woman, 38, was held captive for a week in a home in Zeist, where she was repeatedly raped and brutally tortured by a 52-year-old migrant identified as E. el B.

The suspect beat and kicked her, assaulted her with multiple objects, forced her under a cold shower, placed a plastic bag over her head, tied a rope around her neck, and cut her arms and legs with a knife.

He is also accused of attempting to kill her by throwing her from his car near the A12 motorway at Maarsbergen and then driving over her.

The victim was found with two collapsed lungs, a broken shoulder blade, a broken nose, a missing front tooth, multiple stab and cut wounds, deep marks around her neck, and was unable to walk. Police said they had never seen a living person in such a severe condition.

Investigators found the victim's DNA and blood in the suspect's home. Prosecutors say his phone contained images of the injured victim and that he had searched online for violent sex websites and for a drug to sedate someone for transport.
