This is Bolivia: Day 8 of the general strike, barricades across all the highways bringing all trade and economic activity to a halt, commercial trucks backed up for miles. This continues until the neoliberal govt resigns.
Workers of every country have their Strait of Hormuz.
The LIRR strike really is a litmus test for who is and isnāt pro labor bc a lot of yall seem to think middle class workers shouldnāt be allowed to ask for cost of living increases since theyāre not poor
Right. Always blame the @MTA workers who dare to want to stay ahead of this affordability crisis in one of the most expensive areas to live in the country. Annual raises averaging about 3.5% over four years is entirely reasonable.
@GovKathyHochulās MTA wastes tons of $ on poor planning, construction cost overruns, consultants, and a $1,500 an hour, hired-gun lawyer for @LIRR negotiations - when it has an entire Labor Relations Department already on the payroll. But some efficiency twits and corporate mouthpieces focus on the people actually doing the work for austerity, not those with the corner offices overlooking the city from which they enrich themselves. Take a hike.
By the way, two Presidential Emergency Boards that investigated said this: āAtĀ noĀ pointĀ in theĀ PEBĀ hearingsĀ didĀ theĀ CarrierĀ assertĀ thatĀ thereĀ wasĀ aĀ financialĀ inabilityĀ toĀ payĀ forĀ reasonable wageĀ increasesĀ thatĀ wereĀ otherwiseĀ foundĀ toĀ beĀ appropriate.Ā UnlikeĀ aĀ numberĀ ofĀ priorĀ periods,
thereĀ wasĀ noĀ claimĀ andĀ noĀ showingĀ thatĀ theĀ MTAĀ wasĀ inĀ anyĀ direĀ financialĀ straits.āĀ @TwuSamuelsen #lirr #strike
