After the second Empire record, I remember feeling extremely exhausted. The thought of diving deep into another album was daunting.

Then I thought to myself, maybe we need to go somewhere warm, somewhere calm. What about Hawaii?

We could surf, drink coconuts, and just roll into the studio!

And so that's what we did.

It was very freeing. The summer breeze, the island energy, seemed to just work for Empire.

A lot of the album took shape there.

After the islands, we headed back to LA to finish the album and had the chance to work with the iconic Lindsey Buckingham.

Definitely an epic ending to making the record.
