Tomorrow is Burns Night, when Scotland honours its greatest poet.
But Robert Burns wasn't just writing poems — he was reviving the Scots language.
Scots was once spoken by kings — but it was cast aside.
Here's the untold tale of English's closest cousin, and how it survived 🧵
This ⬇️ @ProfDonnaHall and @wheppolette nail it..
“until we begin to genuinely & meaningfully reconnect with the public & the places they live in, on our public service reform journey, we haven’t got a chance of reforming anything”
Place is where the heart is ❤️
“I’ve seen these guys help people who don’t speak English print off a form for a visa ... Then they’ll patiently help someone who’s homeless. Then they’ll help me with my inquiry about a book, * they’ll know all about it. And they’re grossly underpaid.” https://t.co/qF6XWxQGEM
A thread on public procurement...For the last 5 years, Camden have been on a journey towards mission-driven government. Following on from the launch of our Community Wealth Fund, we have been working with @IIPP to explore mission-driven procurement /1
@AnnemargaretbB Oh I think that’s exactly what it is and from the article you sent, that thing from its backend is for laying eggs…Why is it in cold, wet Perth though? 😀 Thanks for sending on and hope all is good with you.
Does anyone know what this #insect is? About 5 cm in length, flies and a very long non-barbed stinger. I’m based in Perth Scotland. Can’t deny it, took this photo and then scarpered 😨 #entemology
Two photos 4 years apart - my partner JR’s garden project. As you can see, in 2020 it was pretty bare but now it is full of pollinators, birds and beauty. He’s not with us to see the fruits of his labour but he would have loved it 🐝 🪶🪺🐞🦋🌻🌱❤️
We need greater focus on systems thinking rather than just dealing with here and now change. But it’s tough and needs commitment from all players to achieve it.
The change challenges we face are typically complex & the change is hard to "manage". So we often break them down into multiple projects that are owned by different teams. But this can create more complexity as we try to coordinate different views, processes & stakeholder needs across project boundaries. Systems thinking can help us to see the big picture, to understand how our choices impact on the wider system & to come up with different approaches. One cowslip left in MurrayRoyal hospital grounds which this week had hundreds of this native wildflower. This bank is next to the Leven Ward, with a sensory garden to help mental wealth and wellbeing. The irony was not lost on me. Why is @nhstayside grass cutting? #nomowsummer
