When someone’s mean and then follows it up with “Can’t you take a joke?” it’s like they’re trying to flip the script and make you the problem. It’s not about being sensitive or not being able to take a joke—it’s about them crossing a line and then trying to gaslight you into thinking it was all just fun and games. People use humor as a cover for their nastiness, and when you call them out, suddenly you’re the one who “can’t handle it.”

No, that’s not how it works. You’re allowed to feel upset when someone’s being openly mean, and you don’t need to second-guess your reaction just because they try to backtrack and call it a joke. There’s a big difference between actual jokes, where everyone’s laughing, and someone using humor as a weapon to put you down. It's not about having thin skin—it’s about recognizing when someone’s just being hurtful and trying to pass it off as something harmless. They’re the ones who need to take accountability, not you.
