Libya Field Notes

One overlooked element of last week’s drill was the simulated deployment of heli-borne sniper overwatch, using Aérospatiale SA 342 Gazelles carrying teams with Dragunov SVDS DMRs & Orsis T-5000 sniper rifles to simulate suppressing potential MANPADS ahead of fast-rope assault.

10½ months ago: there was no hopping, and they've missed the wagon.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

No, Egypt can't strong-arm Saddam despite being his father's main backers. All they can do is take advantage of his pragmatism and hop on his wagon.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

So soon? We didn't even get to see the wedding photos! guess we'll just have to take @ilfoglio_it 's word for it then.

The honeymoon between Netanyahu and Haftar is (already) over. Retaliation is expected after the agreement between Libya and Turkey on borders - via @ilfoglio_it

Far from the newly ratified EEZ demarcation [some 2,050 km to the southwest] a man still clings adamantly to his ambitions, yet seems aware enough to acknowledge their immediate infeasibility with an ironic Freudian slip

Don't expect any major developments in Fezzan anytime soon

At a certain point all these niceties will end,and there will be only the long game.

No Zubi or his militant ilk ,a sustainable political system with unrestricted rewards for the Turks (among others),LY Democracy is a liability here.

Confirmed 🦃ish infrastructures at AlKhadim.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

In case anyone was wondering about the downpour of Turkish supplied equipment to the LAAF in the past few weeks, from the TB3 and Akinci UAVs, to the BMC Amazon MRAPs and finally the MKE Tolga SHORAD and who knows whatelse:

Up next, Al-Watiya?

@Ahamed40052157 @oryxspioenkop It certainly is smart to "appear weak when you are strong and strong when you are weak" - Sun Tzu, The Art of War.

And I don't doubt the second part, someone has to keep @MTailamun busy:

[Mohamed Tailamun|محمد طيلمون @MTailamun]

I walk the talk so let's do the SA-5 Gammon/Vega recent booster incident, the missile background in Libya and why the notion of using it now against a Flying DJI Matrice is preposterous and what are the actual possible reason behind the incident.

A 🧵

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

"new" here is a bit of a stretch.

GNU's FBS done an incredible job restoring many of the abandoned vehicles by the LAAF in Tarhuna [covered in a timeless piece by @oryxspioenkop ]

Including but not limited to
T-62M
T-55E
2S3 Akatsiya SPG
2x EE-9 Cascavel

And other equipment

[Ahamed @Ahamed40052157]

@LibyaFieldNotes @MKEgovtr GNU also have been getting alot of new stuff. I assume they hide their stuff well. Esspacially the radar..either kalkan-2..or Alp-100g. I think..i think they may have upgraded their defenses a tad bit too mich

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

@oryxspioenkop Another interesting "hand-me-down" is the Kelkan-II 3D phased radar component of the Turkish MIM-23 HAWK system that was recently replaced with HiSAR.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

@Ahamed40052157 @boeingmax0101 @MKEgovtr It was part of the MIM-23 HAWK AD that was stationed in Alwityah AB in 2020 and later replaced with the HiSAR+O in 2024.

It appears to be operating as a forward observation and possibly for target cueing for any operational AD systems in Tripoli or Misrata

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

⚡⚡️🇹🇷🇱🇾 Leaked footage circulating on social media, alongside excerpts from an official release, shows LAAF personnel receiving training on Türkiye’s MKE TOLGA short-range air-defence (SHORAD) and counter-UAS system made by @MKEgovtr [Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi].

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

⚡️ Around 100 Turkish-made BMC AMAZON 4×4 MRAPs appear in a lineup of the LAAF’s Sa’iqa Special Forces.

Notably, the vehicles appear to have an “ANS” marking in place of BMC’s usual front-facing logo. The reason for the substitution remains unclear.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

@Ahamed40052157 @MKEgovtr First border sector? Interesting. First time seeing a faction in Libya deploy a hovercraft.

Is there a link to the original media?

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

@AndreaM72716965 @AlexScipione @SONARROW_OSINT @GambLuca @Geiasou69 The images are indeed new, but the post (& OP himself) is unreliable source of information.
This is the official release:
https://t.co/Qfm3GZWMZO
There'll be a post about it later today but as of now there isn't much new about the weapons or equipment, just regular troop rotation

Same AMR rifle during the LAAF's campaign in Northern Niger 7 months ago against the SLOR militants, reportedly by the 604th brigade AMR platoon.

[Libya Field Notes @LibyaFieldNotes]

A very interesting large calibre [14.5mm?] AMR of unknown model also appeared in large numbers which LAAF special forces units.

The rifle was first spotted with the 604th brigade deployed in Northern Niger 7 months ago.
