The Midfield has been really shaky, he gets bypassed easily
Anderson has insane work rate and stamina but he's not composed, that makes it easy to bypass him just that he's willing to actually chase you like a mad dog

This myth that Anderson and Enzo cannot work in a pivot is one I will NEVER agree to.

They have not worked (according to you), not because they cannot do it, but because they are NOT ASKED TO DO IT!🗣️🗣️

The starting lineup on paper is always a 4-2-3-1 with Anderson and Enzo the “supposed pivot”.

However , if you watch the games closely, the formation in possession morphs to a 3-1-6. Maresca specifically asks Anderson to play as the lone pivot while Enzo pushes up to become a right sided 8. And there’s a reason for that.

Maresca loves control. He wants to control the midfield. And so, playing a 3-1-6 gives you a positional advantage up the pitch. This means City would have more players in the opposition half , pushing them back into their box.

However, this system heavily relies on City been able to keep the ball and not lose it. And that’s where work needs to be done.

Maresca has made up his mind to be a risk taker. He wants to solve the off the ball work issues, not adding an extra man in midfield, but by keeping the ball.

Do you think if Maresca chooses to adjust Enzo’s position and asks him to stay with Anderson in the pivot, he cannot do it?

The system needs time and patience. And I believe it will work.
