I got told today from an entrepreneur that buying a business is riskier than building one.
I beg to differ. Buying a business with real cash flow and a proven customer base is far less risky than starting from zero. The risk is in overpaying, not in acquiring.
Starting a business from scratch is romanticized. You spend years proving something exists. Acquiring customers. Buying one means that proof is already done, you just have to not screw it up.
People around me ask me how I find the businesses to buy. I think the right question is how do I operate them once I do. Buying one is not the hardest part, steering it, is.
