The U.S. company @AbbottGlobal delivered 100 mPIMA machines to 🇺🇬 @MinofHealthUG, expanding Uganda's national testing network to 415 machines, with plans to reach 815 nationwide. In his speech, Tephy Mujurizi, the executive director @lifecare_ltd gave a brief history and background of the impact private sector collaborations such as that of Lifecare Diagnostics/Abbott and the Ministry of health has had in disease trends especially in the HIV response and management in Uganda.

He pledged his commitment through the exisiting collaboration with @MinofHealthUG in the areas of technical support, installations of the platformsthrough continous field mentorship and monitoring.

Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, the director of Public Health at @MinofHealthUG reitarated that indeed Point-of-care testing plays a critical role in Uganda's HIV response, and therefore the need to bring diagnostics to the people and make diagnostics count.

Dr Susan Nabadda, the executive director of Uganda National Health Labaratory services noted that point of care testing for viral load and early infant diagnosis plays a transformative role in decentralizing and accelerating HIV care particularly in resource limited setting, and therefore by moving high quality molecular testing to local clinics, hospitals or delivery wards, POCT addresses the critical operational barriers of standard lab networks.

The East African Community (EAC) has officially launched the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) as the EAC Regional Centre of Excellence in Virology in Entebbe, Uganda, marking a major milestone in the region’s efforts to tackle infectious disease outbreaks affecting East Africa, including Ebola, Marburg and other emerging viral threats.

🇺🇬 Officiated by Uganda’s Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, representing H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the launch positions UVRI as a regional hub for 🔬 advanced virology research, 🧪 specialised laboratory training, 📊 disease surveillance, 🩺 diagnostics and ���� knowledge sharing.
