In @LifeRing Secular Recovery we talk about how small steps in a positive direction are a foundation of recovery. Make the same small step repeatedly, it's a new habit that doesn't require focus. So your brain can make new positive choices. And so on, and so on. Neuroplasticity! #addiction #sober
"Recovery-focused narratives work in part by activating humanizing frames rather than stigmatizing ones: viewers are invited to see people who use substances as full individuals navigating a health condition, not as social problems. In contrast to crisis-focused messaging, which may reinforce fear or hopelessness, recovery narratives foreground agency, opportunity, and community belonging." #addiction #recoveryposse #harmreduction

I have never forgotten the chaos and misery of my severe, lengthy meth #addiction. I think this is a big part of why I haven't been at risk of relapse for 30 years. #recoveryposse#sobriety
I've heard many who like 12-steps describe it as structured. For those who don't, they often say "rigid." On the other hand, some people think @LifeRing Secular Recovery is too loosey-goosey because members build their own plan. This is why choice is important. #addiction#sober
When a relapse/slip, or almost one, happens, I encourage an analysis. What, exactly, happened? Why did it happen? How can you reinforce your recovery plan so this doesn't happen in the future?
"[E]ffective [SUD/addiction] treatment must address more than drug use alone. It must attend to medical, psychological, social, vocational, legal, and family needs. It also needs enough duration to matter. Anyone who has spent time around recovery knows that a durable foundation rarely develops in a matter of days. In real life, that means the system cannot stop at reversal, detox, a referral sheet, or a short episode of care and expect a person with years of addiction and instability to rebuild their life." I recognize that faith and/or the 12-step approach works for many in #addiction recovery. And I certainly support them in this. But it doesn't work for many others. The problem arises when we go from "this worked for me" to "this is the only thing that will work for everyone."
Recovery gives us the space to finally hear ourselves. 🗣️ It’s not just about quitting; it’s about discovering the real you that was there all along.
Finding your authentic voice is a superpower. What have you discovered about yourself lately?

Interesting piece by @AndrewTatarsky about urges, including "One of the most powerful harm reduction tools is something known as urge surfing." #harmreduction#addiction

Did you know Ohio recently made it easier to apply for a Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE)?
Previously, individuals had to wait one year after completing their entire sentence before applying, including parole, probation, or community control.
@HunterBiden Thanks for this & for "Doing the Work" of recovery. This Sat. I'll have 2.5 years my longest ever. Trying since 2000, so 26+ yrs. I finally realized "The opposite of addiction is connection" & I need to "Do the Work" needed in recovery too. My story. Thx. https://t.co/Mv5IdZlZIW
