You know what Muslims, Mormons, and Jews say to me constantly?

“You don't follow Jesus. You follow Paul.”
Bro... you don't understand how Christianity works.

You do NOT need Paul to believe Jesus is the Messiah.

If Paul disappeared tomorrow, Christianity would still stand.
Why?

Because the Torah and the prophets already did the heavy lifting.

Genesis: sin enters the world.
Exodus and Leviticus: blood, atonement, and substitution.

Passover: the spotless lamb.
Isaiah: the suffering servant.
Daniel: the Messiah.

That's not Paul.

That's Moses, David, Isaiah, Daniel, and the entire prophetic story.
Paul didn't invent Jesus.
Paul looked at the Scriptures and realized:

This was ALWAYS about Him.
And Paul wasn't some random guy making up theology.
He was a Pharisee trained in the law.
So when he preached, what did he quote?

The Old Testament.
Over.
And over.
And over.

His argument was simple:
If the Scriptures are true, Jesus Christ is unavoidable.

So saying Christians follow Paul instead of Jesus is like saying you follow the referee instead of the rulebook.

Paul isn't the point.
He's pointing you to the point.

Don't like Paul?
Fine.

Read Isaiah 53 without him.
Read Psalm 22 without him.
Read Daniel 9 without him.

You'll still end up staring directly at Jesus.
Christianity isn't built on Paul.

It's built on the Messiah the Scriptures were already pointing to.

This is a lazy, morally bankrupt argument of a culture that’s traded truth for comfort. We now act as if every serious issue can be reduced to personal taste, just like picking the flavor of our favorite ice cream. We act as if whatever we believe has no implications outside of ourselves.

You would never say:

“Don’t like child abuse? Don’t abuse your kid.”

“Don’t like racism? Don’t be racist.”

“Don’t like drunk driving? Then don’t do it.”

Why not? Because we all instinctively understand that some things are just wrong, and not just for you and me, but for everyone, because these things they hurt people, they corrupt innocence and truth, they distort reality, and they destroy the moral foundation we all depend on to live in a functioning society.

The idea that all moral issues are private choices is a lie. These things don’t stay in our bedrooms or at clinic or in our heads. They seep into our schools, the media, law, culture, and to the next generation.

Everyone pays the price for the lies we choose to accept.

If Calvinism is true—that every person is born totally unable to believe the gospel, and that faith is only possible through God’s sovereign, supernatural regeneration that causes belief in the elect—then WHY was Jesus astonished at the Centurion’s exceptional faith (Matthew 8:10) and astonished at the unbelief of the people in His hometown (Mark 6:6)?

A consistent Calvinist view renders Jesus’s astonishment inexplicable, since faith (or its absence) would simply be the inevitable outworking of God’s unconditional decree and effectual calling rather than something genuinely surprising or praiseworthy in response to human response!

To the Americans:

I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.

And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:

You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.

This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.

Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.

This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.

But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.

This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.

And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:

Thank God for the United States.

Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.

Long may your admirable country dominate the world.

Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.
