Young graduates in the built environment: unless your family is already in the industry, the real value of your degree usually starts to show after 7 to 10 years. That is when you look back and realise you made one of the best decisions of your https://t.co/qWu4ZmW8bL only happens if you treat the early years as training, not waiting. Spend at least four hours a day sharpening your skills. Pick one thing. Do it again and again until you are excellent at it. Then become identifiable with it.When someone needs a reliable engineer for earthworks, they should think of Dennis. Structural analysis? Engineer Auko. Electrical works and audits? Engineer Chege. Renders, design and sound advice? Architect David.Once you reach that level, the phone will ring even when you are asleep. You will choose who to work with. You will set your price. In one or two years of operating at that standard, you can out-earn people who have spent twenty years in ordinary employment.Ten years of focused practice is when you become a beast — unless you get unusually lucky earlier.Remember this: in engineering, medicine and law, your degree is a retirement package. You become more valuable with every year of practice. At 80 you can still be a renowned consultant — the kind of name people mention with respect, like Kaminwa and that well-known consultant from Nairobi https://t.co/xcNvf5h7o5 that with a degree that only exists to get you hired. Unless you save aggressively, by 45 companies will start looking for someone younger.Keep grinding. The door opens for people who have become impossible to ignore.

Any degree in the built environment is a gracious asset that can even change how the world operate, very powerful.
