If Susan Collins really wanted to stand up for Mainers, she’d have said no to confirming Trump’s cabinet, who vowed to support tariffs. No to a war with Iran from the start that’s been raising gas prices and wasting tax dollars. No to $70 billion for ICE. No to tax breaks for billionaires while Maine’s health care system crumbles.

Mainers see the difference between concern and action. And they’re damn tired of the concern.

AOC: I think the Supreme Court has demonstrated their inherent conflicts of interest with the President. This is very clearly one of the starkest examples that we have seen. There is no congressional authorization for these funds to be distributed in that way.

Congress holds the power of the purse. The finances of this matter, and how this multi-billion-dollar project was even being paid for, has never been clear from the beginning. There are enormous conflicts of interest inherent in this matter, and the Supreme Court has already ruled that they believe that the President should be able to commit crimes while he’s in office.

And I believe that they are complicit in the tearing up of many of the checks and balances that we see in the Constitution.

Why does anyone care that Susan Collins is “pushing back” against Trump? We’ve seen this movie before. Collins expresses concern, gets headlines for her independence, then too often votes with Trump when it counts. She’s in a tight reelection race, so criticism is cheap.
