I’ve been a member of @24hourfitness since 2001. Over the last two decades, I watched the company evolve from its sale to private equity back to private ownership and eventually into its current corporate structure.
I recently received notice that they are closing my account because the Richmond, CA (Magic Days) location is shutting down. That is the club where I first bought my All Sport membership. Looking at the contract, I understand they have the right to terminate the agreement at any time.
Still, as I was working out in a small local gym today, it hit me that I have been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for more than half my life. The club has been as much a fixture in my world as any school I ever attended. It is personal for me. I spent a few years there as a trainer when I was a young adult and even attended the memorial for Erich Jenkins at the San Ramon club.
I am writing this partly as a memo to myself to mark the end of an era but mostly just as a final farewell. 24 Hour was a huge part of my story and it is strange to see that chapter finally close.
I had @innoutburger in Arizona yesterday and had to return just to see if it was a fluke. It wasn't the fries were crispy on both sides. I almost went in to ask the manger what they were doing.
The burger was still perfection and the middle of the fry was the same not the ends
