I cannot stop thinking about Jack Lees choosing to swim back into the rip for the third student.
On 4 June 2024, at Northcott Mouth in Cornwall, three young women were caught in a powerful rip current. Jack and his friend Zaid Anfoka helped two out of the rip. Jack then went back for the third.
He stayed with her for about 40 minutes until she escaped the current. All three women made it back. Jack, 20, did not.
I feel heartbroken by what his courage cost him. I think Britain should know his name (I wish more people did).
Had you heard Jack’s name before?
Opening up the castle this morning, and as the ground has dried out, you can see the outline of where a medieval manor house once stood in the grounds…
The world will never forget your names. Sending love and thoughts to you, your family, your friends and everybody affected by the tragic events of that day two years ago.

Four soldiers from the Household Cavalry were murdered by an IRA car bomb in Hyde Park.
Seven horses also died.
Seven members of the Royal Green jackets were killed in the second attack, at Regent's Park.
RIP, never forgotten.

While the world watches the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran hanged a 19-year-old boy today.
His name is Erfan Esfandiari and he was his parents' only child.
He did not kill anyone. He did not carry a weapon. His crime, according to the Islamic Republic, was opening a door. Sheltering protesters who were running from security forces. That was enough to send him to the gallows.
Erfan was one of 12 young men in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan, arrested during the January 2026 uprising. Yesterday, all 12 were moved to quarantine. Today, the Islamic Republic hanged him.
This is a government that is so terrified of a generation that refuses to be silent, that it executes teenagers for the act of compassion.
Say his name. Because the regime is already trying to erase him. Because his mother and father are left with nothing, not even the right to grieve loudly.
Argentina have repeatedly shown us everything football shouldn’t be.
Today France and England showed us what it should be.
No hate between players, no filthy fouls and trying to actually harm each other, no political statements, no favouritism, no disgusting behaviour from fans just the beautiful game.
