@dantelives13@jrwamsey Clifford screams of a poor man’s Joey Gallo offensively to me, not a direct 1 to 1 comp but I think that’s the archetype of hitter you’re looking at.
@WexlerRules @jramseymmo @aTmEbEp They’d still have to either DFA or 60 day IL someone for Thornton since their 40 man roster is full. Plus, given the health of the arms, unnecessarily burning options for Gerber and Duarte seems counter intuitive imo. Why honor Duarte’s clause just to option him a two days later?
@GoodFundies They should honestly call up Morabito for Slater, and at least platoon him vs LHP. I’d argue they could play Morabito every day in LF and DH Soto for the time being
@GoodFundies As I said a few weeks ago, they’ll have to string together 2 extended win streaks given the hole they’ve dug. Definitely plausible with the pitching, but one will have to come before the deadline to stop a roster sale this August.
@GoodFundies They ultimately will need a 6+ game win streak or two to get back in it. In 24 when they were 22-33 they had a 7 and a 9 game win streak down the stretch to make up ground.
@GoodFundies We are also in extras innings in a game where a simple first inning challenge has Mendoza and the team answering questions after a win at this moment
@GoodFundies Should have just started with Williams, who was already out there lol, or let Brazoban finish. Mendoza can’t help himself at the opportunity to make a pen move mid inning for no reason.
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel What do you mean real outing? Not using arguably your best pen arm for 10 straight days is managerial malpractice. Saving guys for specific situations is why Mendy finds himself in long losing streaks more often than not. He either overworks you or doesn’t use you at all
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel The fact this is his 4th 7+ game losing streak in the last 6 months of regular season baseball is pretty incriminating. It’s one thing if this was a one off, it’s another when it looked exactly the same a year ago with a completely different roster
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel Use him when you’re down 4-0? Like there was a fair share of low stress outings he could have been used in instead of getting 10 days off which clearly got him out of sorts.
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel That’s probably the move if you hadn’t lost the last 11 games. After going up 3-0, today was the day to be super aggressive with the pen after the day off. And Mendoza wasn’t. Left McLean in too long, and one could argue he should have pulled Williams after he loaded the bases.
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel Mendoza further compounded the issue by putting Williams in another pressure cooker when he prob needed a low stress outing after struggling out the 10 day break.
@nicocongi@Ben_Yoel He got through 6, and that was after giving up the tank to Buxton 3rd time through. Part of being a good manager is being proactive, And he pulled McLean too late.
