It’s maintained because of its historical place, not because it’s something everyone should go read. People seem to equate ‘it exists’ with ‘it is worth reading’ or ‘everyone utilizing this archive wants to read this’ and that’s just not how that works, at all.

It was bad and it didn’t work. It severely limited the types of stories people could write. You aren’t getting most of modern media under Hays Code rules. AO3 is an archive. You assume because it’s on the site that means it’s worth reading and that’s just not true.

Media tried to do this between the 1930’s - late 60’s. It was called the Hays Code. You couldn’t depict problematic or illegal things on screen unless you properly condemned them. Characters couldn’t kiss ‘lustfully’. Criminals always had to get their due in the end.

Nobody has the time to sort through each of those fics and decide which ones are ‘unproblematic’ enough to stay and which ones should go, and under what criteria? When censorship becomes based on morality, whose morals are correct?

Censorship is an Axe, not a scalpel. “I think this fic is reprehensible and shouldn’t be allowed!”. If the grounds for what is allowed isn’t ‘what is legal’, then who decides what is and isn’t allowed? Who decides what toes the line and what doesn’t?

Important things for new ao3 users:

- "&" depicts a PLATONIC relationship
- "/" depicts a ROMANTIC OR SEXUAL relationship
- "dd:dne/dead dove: do not eat" means "what the tags say", don't be surprised a fic talks about what's tagged
- Don't like, don't read. If smth is tagged

@misse10101010 Heee no. Es la versión simplista. Ao3 necesita dinero pero se mantiene a base de donaciones, Wattpad inició gratis pero fueron organizaciones quienes exigieron que halla censura. Ao3 tiene reglas claras no restricciones asfixiantes, las restricciones son moneda común comunista.

@moobbringer @meowjoshi97 Wtf? Hay menos historias de esas de lo que crees, cuando veo la etiqueta simplemente me voy. Como ao3 es sin algoritmo y sin fines de lucro no se promueven historias de ningún tipo. Hay gente que escribe sobre sus traumas para sobrellevar esa experiencia.

@Realmsofterrorz @Sunlitespecial @meowjoshi97 Muchas de esas historias las escriben víctimas y las usan como terapia, es un Archivo sin algoritmo por lo que no escriben buscando fama o promover esas situaciones. Muchos de los comentarios que defienden que no halla censura son literalmente víctimas de las que te hablo.

Comecei a ler fic no wattpad quando eu tinha uns 12 anos, e uma das primeiras q eu li o cara sequestrava, batia, marcava ela c ferro quente e estuprava a prota. A diferença dele pro ao3 é q no wattpad vc descobre lendo e no ao3 vê nas tags e decide se ler ou n.

1--Archive of Our Own does not have an algorithm.

2--You cannot mass report a fic on AO3.

3--No one receives an email notifying them that a fic they reported was taken down.

4--The person who wrote Ao3's T&C is a leading expert in the First Amendment and a Harvard Law professor.

If you cannot handle the content you are finding on Ao3 stop making up lies and go back to Wattpad before Kinktober.

@OddEyeMari No necesariamente a todas esas personas se les da esa forma de sobrellevar sus traumas y es enrendible ya que cada mente es diferente. Además que ese contenido esté ahí no te obliga a leerlo, el punto es que la censura es una pendiente sin fin.

@OddEyeMari No necesariamente, hay gente que escribe justamente para ayudarlos a superar ese trauma, es como cuando haces una broma sobre algo que te molesta. El hecho de hacer una historia para muchos es una forma de dar sentido o un cierre a su situación.

@Milade__18 Me gustaría que, la gente si ve que en Ao3 aparecen más historias en español le pique la curiosidad y traduzca la página y así las historias en español reciban más visualización.

@Milade__18 Personalmente nunca tuve problemas con el idioma ya que abro Ao3 en Google y permite traducir la página, pero a veces creo que la gente simplemente ignora una historia si no está en su idioma a pesar de tener esa opción.
