The idea that we must achieve perfect urban nirvana before we’re allowed to build anything decent is how countries stay stuck. You don’t fix a messy house by refusing to clean any room until every single one is spotless. You start somewhere. Sometimes that somewhere has jet bridges and decent coffee.
Also, the dramatic “we are a danger to ourselves” line is doing a lot of heavy lifting. India has problems, nobody’s denying that. But pretending that shiny new airports are the problem instead of one small part of the solution is just elegant cope dressed up as insight.
