BREAKING: Trump gets nightmare news about his White House ballroom as a federal judge expresses grave skepticism that he has the legal authority to build it at all.

“Where do you see the authority for the president to tear down the East Wing and build something in its place?” Judge Richard Leon asked Justice Department lawyers.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is suing to halt construction on Trump's $400 million ballroom, a corrupt vanity project that's being bankrolled by donations from large corporations.

Judge Leon stated that Trump is trying to carry out an "end run" around congressional oversight by using those private donations to pay for the construction. He slammed the administration's convoluted argument that Interior Department authority permits the project as a "Rube Goldberg contraption" that requires an "expansive interpretation of the language” of federal law. The law in question is only supposed to permit "very small sized projects" using taxpayer dollars for White House maintenance.

“It’s not (for) $400 million worth of destruction and construction,” Judge Leon said.

The judge also demanded that the DOJ attorneys explain how Trump could possibly have legal authority to quickly demolish the East Wing for his ballroom.

“You compare that to ripping down the East Wing and building a new East Wing? C’mon. Be serious," he said when the attorneys absurdly tried to compare the ballroom project to Gerald Ford building a swimming pool in 1975.

The judge stated that he does not plan on ruling on the issue this month, but could issue his decision next month. Trump plans to begin the aboveground construction in April, meaning a bad ruling for Trump could stop his plan dead in its tracks.

“The president is a temporary resident of the White House. He’s not the landlord,” said Tad Heuer, an attorney representing the preservationists in this case.

“He’s a steward,” replied Judge Leon.

BREAKING: Senator Chris Murphy pulls back the curtain on Trump's "insane" plans for Venezuela after a classified briefing — and it's so much worse than we thought.

Every American has a right to know this...

"I just came from the administration briefing on Venezuela," Murphy said in a video posted to X. "Obviously, I can't talk to you about the details they shared with us on the operation itself, but they did talk about their plan moving forward to run Venezuela, and it's insane. They are essentially asking you, the American public, to use your taxpayer dollars to run the country of Venezuela."

Trumped promised to put America first. Instead, he's violating international law and kidnapping foreign leaders in order to shovel even more profits to oil companies as average Americans sink deeper into economic suffering.

"It will be an enormous distraction from everything that matters, because Venezuela has never posed a direct threat to the United States, and it threatens to repeat almost all of the mistakes we made in Iraq and Afghanistan," Murphy continued.

"So let me tell you what I learned, and I can share this with you, because the administration has been talking about this publicly as well," he said. "The bottom line is that the administration is planning to take Venezuelan oil indefinitely and sell it on the secondary market, use that money to run the Venezuelan economy."

"The Venezuelan people don't get to say, we're going to sell that oil, we're going to get that money, and then the United States of America is going to decide who gets paid and who doesn't get paid inside Venezuela," Murphy explained. "We're going to micromanage Venezuela, and we're going to use your taxpayer dollars to do it, because this is going to be a multi-billion dollar effort, which is going to take money, your money, but also enormous time. Donald Trump, the White House, everybody there is going to be spending just as much time running Venezuela as they are running America."

Outside of the abject immorality of this kind of piracy, this plan does a grave disservice to the American people who deserve to have their needs prioritized over those of massive corporations. Once again, we see Trump bending over backwards to help the oligarchs at our expense.

"That's terrible news for you, for the American taxpayer, because there's huge problems here at home," said Murphy. "Healthcare premiums going up, prices going up, and now the United States government is going to be spending most of its time on many days running the country of Venezuela. Why is it also bad news? Because we've seen this play before."

"When the United States tries to impose a political reality at gunpoint on a foreign country, it never goes well," he continued. "Okay, this is a little different than Iraq and Afghanistan, because for now we don't have 100,000 troops on the ground in Venezuela, but it's the same principle. The United States military using its power to try to change a political reality on the ground in a country that we don't understand, it won't go well."

"Another reason why you should care, there's going to be a lot of problems that get greased here, because now we are in charge of the Venezuelan oil industry, essentially," he went on. "And guess what? It's going to be Donald Trump's energy industry and Wall Street friends who are going to get rich off of that. So there is corruption, there is a failure to learn lessons, and there is going to be an enormous amount of time, money, and energy spent on the country of Venezuela instead of the country of the United States of America."

"Donald Trump lied to you when he told you if you elected him, he was going to keep us out of foreign wars, and he was going to focus on costs. He's doing exactly the opposite. He is getting us into another foreign entanglement involving the United States military, and he's doing nothing about the things that matter to you, like costs," Murphy concluded.

BREAKING: Jimmy Kimmel gets the last laugh as his heroic return to late night smashes viewership records with the Youtube upload alone racking up 13 million views already.

And it gets so much better...

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Kimmel's monologue from last night could end up being his "most-watched" ever, a dose of bitter medicine for conservative broadcasting affiliates like Sinclair that refused to air the show. They sided with Donald Trump and now they're reaping the business consequences.

As of this writing, the show's official Youtube account has raked in 13,086,809 views in just 13 hours. Currently, Kimmel's most-watched monologue is one from eight years ago in which he discussed his son's birth and health challenges. It has 14 million views. This new video is on pace to exceed those views in record time, likely by end of day today.

CNN’s Harry Enten has pointed out that the median Youtube viewership for one of Kimmel's uploads is roughly 240,000. This is a smashing success.

While the official Nielsen ratings for television viewership have not yet been released, all indications are that they'll be much higher than the 1.6 million viewers that Kimmel usually brings in.

The show itself has been met with universal acclaim (with the marked exception of MAGA world which is absolutely furious of course). Kimmel thanked those who stood by him and defended free speech during his suspension and he brutally tore into Donald Trump and MAGA FCC Chair Brendan Carr.

He called Carr "Trump's hitman" and said that his actions are "not legal" and "unAmerican."

“The president of the United States made it very clear he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs," said Kimmel.

"Our leader celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can’t take a joke," he said. "He was somehow able to squeeze Colbert out of CBS. Then he turned his sights on me and now he’s openly rooting for NBC to fire Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers and the hundreds of Americans who work for their shows who don’t make millions of dollars.”

“If we don’t have free speech, then we just don’t have a free country. It’s as simple as that. If this most fundamental right is allowed to perish, then the rest of our rights and liberties will topple just like dominoes. One by one, they’ll go down," he added.
