Korean art spaces often meet legal accessibility rules on paper, but many disabled visitors still cannot fully use them. A survey of major museums found that few offered sustained barrier-free programs and many services were limited or hard to access. https://t.co/2b2CLuAViN
"Passion doesnt pay rent" — and in Korea's booming art world, it's basically the business model. With 48,000 art graduates chasing just 3,500 job openings a year, galleries don't have to try hard: entry-level workers' labor conditions are very precarious. https://t.co/3shRrR4Xf7
Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law against "antistate forces" Tuesday night in an unannounced press conference.

My last article covering movies for the culture desk. Moving to the national desk to cover diplomacy and social affairs. 14 months filled with hundreds of screenings and meeting some of the biggest names in Korean film has been thrilling.
Coming to Korea for “Dune: Part Two” was “incredible” to say the least, actors Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Stellan Skarsgård and director Denis Villeneuve said during a press conference Wednesday. https://t.co/q2m0xlUGXv
The 28th Busan International Film Festival (#BIFF) kicked off with a star-studded red carpet event and opening ceremony. Veteran actor Song Kang-ho hosted the event, with renowned actors and directors in attendance. https://t.co/xKEYuio61p
@JakeKwon88 Even the most distinguished experts on demography in Korea cannot agree on a handful of factors to the birth rate problem, let alone one. That article is an interesting read, but I think it is not the most acute diagnosis.
@cww35 @GoAwayWithJae — like the Act on the Prevention of and Countermeasures Against Violence in Schools (can be found here: https://t.co/ikFV5ovDO8) have been largely ineffective but hopefully that will change.
@cww35 @GoAwayWithJae Social discourse on school bullying and violence has started in earnest recently, imo. Countless news articles and features calling for more active response to the issue are pouring out and gov officials are talking about it. Related laws —
@SamuelAAdams @hermjon not a critic but return to seoul was one of the best out of the int features this year and ive watched all shortlisted int features nominated. all quiet on the western front wasnt horrible, but yes, underwhelming.
The success of two milestone works, “Parasite” and“Squid Game,” may have opened the doors for Korean content to earn global acclaim, but the struggle of the entertainment market to repeat these feats sheds light on the downfall of such success. https://t.co/ymxlV6IDgY #kcontent
"Return to Seoul" may seem to have a simple premise, but the film shines a bright light on what it means to resonate with others, the notion of identity and the Korean family. Interview with @davy_chou on #ReturnToSeoul https://t.co/Nwicdjntej
@niccijsmith Just saw the news on Yonhap and thought of your tweet from Tuesday. This is good news. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an independent body and usually does thorough investigation and brings in a board to look into historical events that were overlooked before.
@asmabenaboura @hyunsuinseoul Nope. Each clan has a clan name besides the family name itself, for example mine is “Pungcheon Lim.” That clan name does not appear on official documents. Clans have their own gatherings and sometimes even pockets of villages where they live together though.
@koryodynasty@langleeschool Lee’s songs critique a lot of social issues especially the Korean family structure and that seems to agitate some people. This reminds me of responses to this song where there’s a line about “never forgiving my father.” https://t.co/39s1WyLFXr
@JakeKwon88 Finally slept a few hours after taking sleeping pills yesterday. One of the reasons funerals last three days here is it drains you to stand there receiving people for three days and it helps you forget what happened, at least thats what I was told when a family member died.
An even bigger problem is that the mass trauma and mental health problems suffered by those affected in disasters such as the #Itaewon crowd crush can last not only those individual’s lifetimes but also that of future generations — generational trauma.
Mass trauma, or collective trauma is defined as an entire group’s psychological reaction to a traumatic event that affects society at large. Academics have outlined that it leads to disruption of community life, work, normal networks, institutions and structures in the long term.
“We need to look at this as a very long-term issue and prepare what we’re going to do about it. Trauma is all about how we’re going to respond in the aftermath of disasters.” Mass trauma after #Itaewon and mental health care in Korea. https://t.co/2WPULb6tun
“The media environment has changed so dramatically in recent years that it’s a continuous loop of exposure to graphic videos and photos from the Itaewon crush, powered by algorithms...This is a serious issue and it’s going to get worse.”
