Happy that my values are solidifying. Makes it much easier to set goals and think about the future.
Things that have helped:
-Observing death, birth, and aging
-Optimizing for honesty
-Maslow
-Observing manhood/adulthood
-Above all, pursuing my preexisting notion of value
@evansiu7 Where has Smith done this?
Things that can build & inform value systems helpful for life:
-Role models (parents, etc)
-Lived experiences (learn by doing)
-Media (books, movies, etc) (specifically curious about other people’s perspective on this bullet)
@evansiu7 @sjhangiani12 Depends on the game you’re playing! Could be financial independence, could be a position, could be $ in the bank. I don’t yet have an answer after 25 years sadly.
@evansiu7 @sjhangiani12 Agreed generally. You can alter your value function through self love and mindfulness. At the same time you already have a value function - capitalism to me represents a playground with many games which we already value. Basically an RF model.
@evansiu7 @sjhangiani12 Actually tho 1st question is why are you currently not considering it? Is it an option? If so what are the alternatives and your medium term goals? If not, then it doesn’t really matter.
