@FightInequality How does this contribute to the conversation regarding global financial architecture overhaul that we, in the majority south are demanding for. These individuals and institutions exist in a macroeconic environment that is capitalist and neoliberal.
Women and girls disproportionately rely on public services and social protection measures due to long-standing gender inequalities and are often the “shock absorbers to austerity

We are delighted to have welcomed a delegation from the government of Somaliland today, led by Minister Sh. Mahamed Haaji Aden from the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs. Their visit to Kenya aims to acquire insights from the Kenyan government's efforts in combating Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C). This opportunity was facilitated by The Girl Generation programme initiated by ActionAid Somaliland and hosted by ActionAid International Kenya (AAIK).
Muna Isse Mahad, the Gender Director in the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family, highlighted Somaliland's challenge of having only one female legislator, which impedes the development of policies to combat FGM/C. The minister expressed the shared pain over the suffering girls endure after undergoing the cut, emphasizing the need for concerted action with stakeholders. While efforts have been made to engage women and girls, more is needed in terms of policy development and advocacy.
Bernadette Resian Loloju, CEO of the Anti-FGM Board, outlined Kenya's strides in policy development at both national and county government levels. Loloju extended support to Somaliland, offering assistance in their journey to eradicate FGM/C. Kenya has witnessed a 6% decline in new FGM cases over the past decade due to the implementation of anti-FGM policies. The Kenyan government continues to rally more stakeholders at the grassroots level to combat FGM.
Minister Haaji Aden expressed interest in adopting Kenya's successful strategies for a robust anti-FGM campaign in Somaliland. Susan Otieno, Executive Director of AAIK, commended Somaliland's commitment to addressing the FGM/C issue and pledged ongoing support through consultations.

It is sad that when women push for the Affirmative Action, men pull the 'women want free things' card, even when patriarchy favours them- @MarthaKarua#ChaguaMama
