I am extremely iffy on this ruling from a moral standpoint but I also have to acknowledge this is probably the correct ruling to preserve rights.

The specific laws regarding CSAM were intentionally crafted to protect victims, not punish people we thought were gross. This is why the law specifies the image needs to be of an actual, named child you can point to as a victim.

Once you get into debates of "we'll it's not of any actual kid but it looks real enough to be" then you're immediately jumping on a slippery slope just waiting for someone to push the line of what "real enough" means.
