The ECHR protects

• the right to a fair trial
• freedom of assembly & expression
• the right to participate in free elections
• freedom of religion
• freedom from discrimination
• the right to privacy
• freedom from torture & degrading treatment

suggesting the UK could join Russia & Belarus as the only European countries outside the human rights convention is just completely insane & any argument we can just leave the ECHR & create our own bill of rights pre - supposes we can actually trust the government with our human rights in the first place - WE CAN’T!

During the past eighteen months we’ve had an anti strike law - designed to rob millions of workers of their democratic right to strike, an Elections Act will lock millions of people out of the electoral process - a blatant act of voter suppression by the government & new laws have now stripped back our right to protest & limited our rights to judicial review - an affront to the very principles of fairness and government accountability - anybody see a pattern emerging here?

Imagine if we had an inspectorate to inspect the quality of the performance of government ministers in the way inspectorates assess schools, NHS trusts, police, prisons etc? From Sunak down they would be in special measures. Yet they sit in constant judgement of all of the above

The NHS isn’t failing because of greedy staff, or lazy staff or patients with high expectations for their healthcare. It’s failing because politicians have taken active decisions to underfund it, understaff it, treat the workforce terribly+are now privatising it in various ways🚨
