Sniffing out crime with Skye! 🐶
This footage was taken at Local Shop on Trinity Street in Gainsborough, where officers discovered a ‘lazy susan’ packed full of illicit cigarettes hidden behind a dummy plug socket.
The criminals didn’t fool star sniffer dog Skye, though! 🐕🦺
In total, approximately 4,500 cigarettes and 3kg of hand rolling tobacco was seized during the inspection, which was carried out by @lincsts, @LincsPolice, @WestLindseyDC, and Immigration and Enforcement.
Cllr Alex McGonigle, executive member for community safety at Lincolnshire County Council, said:
“This is now the sixth premises on Trinity Street in Gainsborough that has been found to be selling illegal cigarettes or vapes.
"The other shops have been closed down and we’ve worked successfully with landlords to remove the tenants. Clearly the criminals remain persistent, but we will remain vigilant and continue the fight against this High Street crime.”

Our Trading Standards officers and @LincsPolice, with the assistance of star sniffer dog Skye, have seized around 120,000 more illegal cigarettes and vapes in Grantham and Bourne this week.
Shocking footage was captured showing the lengths criminals are taking to hide them.

The inspections took place as part of #OpMachinize - the ongoing National Crime Agency-coordinated operation to tackle money laundering and criminal use of cash-intensive high street businesses.
