Happy to share our preprint! 🥳 An exciting adventure with the fantastic Ivan Padezhki, and my first time as senior co-author together with Carlos González-García.

Dynamic prioritization reshapes neural geometries for action in human working memory https://t.co/hICHcyVJrd
We believe this perspective can help explain puzzling findings and has important implications for how we study retrieval. It also reflects some of the work we're currently doing in the lab.
New paper out! 🎉 “Evolving Engrams Demand Changes in Effective Cues” (Hippocampus). In this opinion piece, we discuss how retrieval processes can be enhanced and offer an alternative to one of the field’s few enduring principles: encoding specificity.

Here we propose the Dynamic-Cueing Hypothesis: To retrieve an episodic memory effectively, cues should align with the current state of the memory and not necessarily how it was encoded. Since memories transform over time, matching the original trace may no longer be optimal.
One thing I see often is people using 'N' (uppercase) to refer to a sample size. Remember, in statistics, 'N' refers to the population size, while 'n' refers to the sample size.
And that’s my paternalistic tweet of the day! (lol) 😄
During my PhD, I noticed it can be challenging to decode long-term memory (LTM) contents from EEG activity. We were struck by research showing that transient visual "pings" can boost working memory classification.
So, we evaluated this technique for LTM:

Delighted to announce our latest work in @NatureHumBehav. While watching movies, theta phase precession is triggered by cognitive boundaries. Strength of precession predicts strength of memory formed. @Zjmay1 @gkreiman@CedarsSinai@CaltechN https://t.co/Fiu0q0SLdY
I cannot recommend this more. Apart from being a great scientist and top smart guy, Javi is an amazing person with a fantastic project. Don’t miss the opportunity to apply ❤️

Does encoding the present compete with predicting the future?
In 3 behavioral studies, we find that encoding and prediction are coupled, not competitive!
Proud of @CraigPoskanzer & @hannahtstoll for leading this work w/ Raheema Javid & Edoardo Spolaore!

Bad news for the caloric restriction-lifespan extension hypothesis.
The benefits of caloric restriction on longevity only show up in the bottom-10% shortest-lived strains of animal models.
