Got word that Philly’s new public loo opened in Center City today, so I’ve armed myself with a 40 oz Wawa iced tea to give you a first person review. Dear lord this thing better be open I have to pee so bad. Follow along for some service journalism by yours truly. (A thread)
Sylvia Plath knew exactly what she was talking about when she wrote “toss your hair in a bun, drink some coffee, put on some gangsta rap, and handle it.”
Senator openly hospitalized for depression? Rare.
Hospitalization for depression in Pennsylvania in 2021? 42,000.
An aide said Fetterman was able to take the time he needed. “[It shouldn’t be] a luxury, it should become the norm.”

Three days ago, a 15-yr old boy had an anxiety attack in the school bathroom to hide from his bullies and struggling grades.
His “guidance” counselor pulled him into a room alone and told him to power thru and stop saying he was suicidal for attention even tho he was crying so hard the capillaries in his face were broken. Fun fact: the boy has never been in trouble nor has said this before.
The boy is now in the hospital an hour away from his family due to a real attempt to leave this world.
Because the school would not listen all year nor accommodate his mother’s requests for help and a 504 plan, he felt he had no hope and could not face another day.
The boy is my son. And I’m so angry at the GC in his school I’m frozen. They’re now complying to help with classes and gave him a new counselor.
These new accommodations are not enough. Our story isn’t rare. Schools need to wake up and make some real changes.
Here's the media story.
LAPD is already blaming Anderson for his own death, claiming he was erratic and on drugs. The video footage doesn't lie. He asked for help, and they instead pinned him, cuffed him, tased him, & killed him.
How Do You Reform This?

I love this woman’s spirit, as described here. And I wish her well. I hate that a 99-year-old person is working six days a week for a corporate monster that has no regard for living wages, worker’s rights, or social justice. This ain’t a warm and fuzzy story.
The story of the Rhodes Scholar who got a job at Starbucks when she could’ve done literally anything in earth, and helped it become the first unionized Starbucks in the country, is so cool to me.
This clip from the Daily Show of people fighting against seat belt mandates in the 80s is absolutely surreal from start to finish given today's climate on both masks and COVID vaccines.
