๐จ If you don't understand why 3 and 7 matter, you don't understand why the books keep winning. ๐จ
Since 2010, 1 in every 7 NFL games has ended by exactly 3 points. The next most common margin is 7, about 1 in 11. A margin of 4? Only 1 in 20.
Football scores move in field goals and touchdowns, so final margins pile up on 3 and 7. That's the trap.
Lay -3.5 and win by exactly 3, you lose. Lay -3 and win by exactly 3, you get your money back. Same game, same score. One ticket loses, one pushes, all because of half a point sitting on the most common margin in football.
Flip it. Take +2.5 and lose by 3, you lose. Take +3, you push. Take +3.5, you win.
The books know exactly where the margins land. Most bettors don't. Every week people lay -3.5 when -3 was sitting at another book, or grab +2.5 because "it's basically 3."
It isn't. Know the number before you pick a side.
Which one has burned you more, 3 or 7? ๐
The Steelers-Saints line in the 1st half is still Steelers -0.5, but the price moved: Pittsburgh Steelers now -125, was -105. Also moving: Browns-Titans.
Where do you think the first one closes?

@CaesarsSports Why it's still 7.5: the price is moving instead. At Pinnacle, 49ers -7.5 went from -106 to +103 this week and Commanders +7.5 from -106 to -114. And your own split shows it: 78% of spread bets on SF, only 63% of the money. The bigger tickets are on Washington.
@victorbelikov@BookitWithTrent Ha, it is! But at -110 you need 52.4% just to break even, so "almost half" is a losing bet over time. 46% loses about 12 cents on every dollar you lay.
Colts fans are hurting after the home loss to the Titans, and Vikings fans are enjoying a 5-0 start. Pinnacle opened this total at 42.5 Sunday night and has it at 41.5 Monday afternoon. Anyone grab the 42.5?
@gavinmchughh Even without the streak, +7.5 is the right ticket. NFL dogs getting 7.5 have won outright about 1 in 4 times since 2010 and covered 54%. And that half point past 7 turns a one-score loss into a cash.
Titans fans finally got a win, 26-20 at Indy after an 0-5 start, and the market seems to nod along. Pinnacle opened the Browns-Titans total at 36.5 Sunday night and has it at 37.5 Monday morning. Does one point feel right to you?
@johnewing Indiana's the wild one on here. Winning, just never by enough: up 6 as a 20-point favorite, up 3 as a 9-point favorite at Nebraska. The market's still pricing last year's title team.
@invisiblestats And the number hasn't budged. Pinnacle's sat on 49ers -7.5 all week, every snapshot, even with 97% of the ML tickets on San Francisco. The books aren't moving off that hook for anyone.
@stoolpresidente Not a fluke, and the line was halfway there all week. BYU opened +10.5 and got bet down to +10 before kickoff. College dogs that big only win outright about 1 in 5 times. Provo Dave saw it coming.
@GrindingEddie +7.5 is the right side of the 7 to be on. About 1 in 11 NFL games land on exactly 7, and that's a cash for you instead of a push. Pinnacle's held -7.5 all week, so your CLV should stay right around zero unless it moves late.
@JTFOz Market's held at 49ers -7.5 all week without a flinch, so you're laying the same number it opened at. That half point past 7 is the price, about 1 in 11 NFL games land on exactly 7. The total's been climbing though, 50.5 up to 52.5.
When the NFL favorite shrank by 0.5 to 1 point between open and kickoff, the underdog covered the opening spread 51.2% of the time (86 games, 2024-2025). Past results don't predict future ones.

When the NFL total dropped 1.5 to 2 points between open and kickoff, the game went under the opening total 52.6% of the time (57 games, 2024-2025). Past results don't predict future ones.

@Danefredbets Smart buy. 51 is the single most common final total in the NFL since 2010, about 1 in 26 games, so getting under it matters. And the market's leaning your way too, this total's climbed from 52 to 53 this week.
When the NFL favorite grew by 0.5 to 1 point between open and kickoff, the underdog covered the opening spread 52.4% of the time (124 games, 2024-2025). Past results don't predict future ones.

Where the NFL lines stand at 4:55 PM. The Commanders-49ers total rose from 50.5 to 52.5. That's past 51, a total games often end on. Also moving: Cowboys-Packers.
