BREAKING: September PPI inflation unexpectedly rises to 2.2%, above expectations of 1.6%.

Core PPI inflation rose to 2.7%, above expectations of 2.3%.

This is the first jump in Core PPI since April 2022.

PPI inflation is now up 3 consecutive months.

What does the Fed do now?

JUST IN: Odds of another rate hike rise to ~29% after September PPI inflation report.

Meanwhile, the base case now shows interest rate CUTS beginning in June 2024.

Prior to the PPI inflation report, rate cuts were expected to begin in May 2024.

Just 2 weeks ago, futures were showing rate cuts beginning in September 2024.

And 4 months ago, futures were showing 3 rate cuts in 2023.

Uncertainty is the only certainty.

The average interest rate on a 30-year mortgage just hit 7.9%, its highest since 2000.

Meanwhile, mortgage demand just hit its lowest since 1995.

However, prices continue to push into record high territory.

How can demand be at multi-decade lows but prices are still rising?

Because there simply is no supply.

This is a supply crisis.

Treasury yields just won't stop.

The 10-year note yield is up another 13 basis points from its low today.

Since the September Fed meeting just 2 weeks ago, the 10-year note yield is up ~45 basis points.

Only 1 out of the last 7 days have been red for the 10-year note yield.

It's amazing to think zero-interest rate policy was less than 3 years ago.

We should see 8% mortgages within a few days.
