Free agent forward Javonte Green has agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. Green played all 82 games for the Pistons a season ago, averaging 6.9 points, 17.6 minutes and 38.1% 3-point shooting.
I just want to speak on Isaiah Stewart real quickly before anything else.
Stew is a very good player. I am happy to see how Stew has developed and turned himself into a really good player. He was the heart and soul of this locker room. Versatile defensive player. I like Stew a ton and appreciate how he handled the media. I wish him the very best, sincerely.
With that said, it was made clear to me weeks ago that he would be moved. From DET side, they’re about to pay Duren a ton of money and Paul Reed outplayed both of them in the playoffs on a much cheaper contract. DET did not want to commit that much money to a center room. Along with that, Stew (while being very good) has struggled to finish a season healthy almost every year of his career. That played into this.
From Stew’s side, I believe stew was welcoming of a new start that gives a little more freedom and a bigger role. I believe he wants to shoot threes and more freedom to shoot, and believes he’s capable of doing more (he very well might be right!)
It just made sense for both sides for this offseason to be the one Stew was moved.
Just in: The Detroit Pistons are trading C/F Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies for three future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Pistons clear Stewart's salary and pick up assets while Grizzlies acquire a 25-year-old as a rugged frontcourt piece.
