4th MBRG Webinar: "Extremist, devout, moderate – changing representations of Muslims and belief in the UK press"
By Professor Paul Baker, Lancaster University, UK
This Autumn a one-sided account of the Bangladeshi Yunus government surfaced in the name of the APPG for Commonwealth pedalling falsehoods that was widely press-released leading to confusion on UK govt policy
I had it confirmed @HouseofCommons that it has zero official relevance

"Blindfolded, handcuffed and bundled out of his secret prison for the first time in eight years, Bangladeshi barrister Ahmad Bin Quasem held his breath and listened for the sound of a cocked pistol. Instead he was tossed from a car and into a muddy ditch on Dhaka's outskirts -- alive, at liberty and with no knowledge of the national upheaval that had prompted his abrupt release".

This guy needs to be found and brought to justice for his crimes, particularly for the enforced disappearances perpetrated by the Sheikh Hasina government.
The individual in the photos is Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, the security and defense advisor to Dictator Hasina. He is the brother-in-law of Hasina's sister, Sheikh Rehana, and the paternal uncle of British MP Tulip Siddiq. For years, this individual has been a key decision-maker for Hasina regarding security forces.
Practices of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and secret prisons are attributed to his malevolent influence. With Hasina's downfall, this sinister figure has gone underground and is currently untraceable.

Waiting to hear when my brother , who has been missing for the last eight years, to be released soon. Thank you @TheDavidBergman and @NetraNews for your work on the enforced disappearances perpetrated by the Hasina regime.
The very first thing, and I mean this must be the very very first thing that the new #Bangladesh interim government/army must do, is to release any secretly detained/disappeared person who remains alive. Many have been killed, but those alive should be immediately released. Some of these men may in fact be in some kind of secret army custody, so the army has to come clean now and release them
It looks like years of inaction by the #InternationalCommunity in #Bangladesh has created an overwhelming sense of impunity although it seems finally that the #HasinaRegime has overestimated its position. There are always red lines. This, finally, is one. It is a useful reminder to the senior political, military and law enforcement officials that bear individual criminal responsibility that the @IntlCrimCourt is watching closely.
During this election, GB News, the Telegraph, Jewish Chronicle & other news outlets have framed Muslims voting in the #GeneralElection2024 as “sectarian”, “extremists”, antisemites and constantly questioned their loyalty to Britain.
