@RobGMacfarlane @HamishH1931 Wonderful Rob.
I hope the intention which sprang up, the streams of thinking-feeling-noticing which flowed, the meandering questions & cascade of revealings… I hope this, your incredible work-of-words, reaches & refreshes many!
In case of interest, I wrote a short piece for Welldoing called ‘5 surprising things about grief’ (as a prelude to my next book on grief, out in May).
Grief is love
Grief is presence
Grief speaks
Grief wants fresh air
Grief grows you

It’s done. After 5 yrs. Manuscript for “Running Off The Map” went off y’day to be typeset & dressed as a book.
It’s an end to the editing & the beginning of sharing the story of a life transition.
Inspired by @RobGMacfarlane incredible “The Wild Places” 🙏🏻

@TalkingHeadsOak Lovely. As Nancy Kline says, create places that say back to people “you matter” and they will do their best thinking in those places. 👍🏻
@RobGMacfarlane Thanks Rob, really appreciate that.
Ps. The day before Loch Rannoch marathon in Oct ‘18 I’d been reading about Rannoch Moor in Wild Places. You wished me “many miles in my legs & much ink in my pen”. Your encouragement stayed with me for 5 yrs… Thank you.
Which cover design do you prefer? (from young Canadian designer Benita Thompson, for a book which took a year to run & 5 yrs to write). Inspired by @RobGMacfarlane “Wild Places”, in 2019 I ran a trail marathon each month, between one winter & the next, to get ‘mentally sober’.
What began as recovery from grief became a recalibration with nature, discovering what it means to go beyond ‘the small self’. Up Snowdon, along Jurassic & Gower coasts, thru The Mournes, across The Fens & Dartmoor, around Kielder & Loch Rannoch, beneath meteors & stars…
Why wait for the new year to start something new? In The Good Habit Workbook you can find practical advice, effective tips & guided exercises to help you to break free from negative cycles and replace them with positive, productive habits for long-term health and happiness.
Feeling bad about feeling bad?
What if your anger is a source of justice? Your anxiety is a call to action? Your grief is a path to connecting with others? What if you stop “trying to be happy” and listen to & trust your experience as it happens?
Thoughts from “Night Vision”…
There are many troubles in our world.
It’s important we also notice the sense of safety & peace which is also present.
When we still the clamour in our own minds we can be available to others.
We generate #healing & #hope from a place of clarity, not reaction.

Pressure can knock your thinking-brain into touch. You (over)react.
R.O.C.K is a simple way back:
R. Regulate: press feet into the ground & breathe out.
O. Orientate. What can you see, hear, feel?
C. Communicate. Say what you need.
K. Kindness. Assume the best.

Perhaps you’ve come across the idea “On a scale of 0-10”?
“Scaling” is a simple & versatile #coaching tool to get unstuck and think clearly again. Here’s a short video about why & how it works.
