🚨 N34.4 BILLION FOR UCH IBADAN: A HOSPITAL BUILDING ROADS, CLASSROOMS & SUPPLYING TRANSFORMERS?

Our review of the 2026 FG Budget reveals over N34.4 billion allocated to the hospital for projects beyond its core healthcare mandate.

These include:
🏫 Classroom construction
🛣️ Road construction
💡 Solar streetlight installation
⚡ Transformer supply

📍But there is an even bigger accountability concern: only two of these projects have identified locations. The locations of the remaining projects are unspecified, making it difficult for citizens and oversight institutions to determine where the projects will be implemented or how they can be tracked.

Some critical questions begging for urgent answers:
❓ Why is a tertiary hospital implementing projects outside its core mandate?
❓ Where exactly will these projects be delivered?
❓ Who are the intended beneficiaries?
❓ How can citizens track projects whose locations are not clearly stated?

Nigeria's limited public resources require clear priorities, institutional accountability and value for money.

A hospital should be focused on delivering quality healthcare, not becoming a catch-all agency for unrelated infrastructure projects.

🚨 How Did a Cooperative College Get N1.08 Trillion for 2,791 Capital Projects?

Our review of the 2026 FG budget reveals that the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River (@fedccojiriver), has been allocated N1.08 trillion for 2,791 capital projects spread across the 36 states in Nigeria and the FCT. This means a single federal cooperative college is expected to implement thousands of projects with nationwide coverage from Abia to Zamfara, Sokoto to Bayelsa, Lagos to Borno, and across the FCT.

These projects include:
🛣️ Road and drainage constructions
💡 Solar streetlight installation,
🎓 Digital learning centres,
🌾 Supply of rice and empowerment materials,
⚽ Construction of football pitches,
🏥 Medical outreaches,
♻️ Plastic recycling and processing plants,
🩺 Dialysis centres,
🚑 Ambulance supply e.t.c

Yet, the College's core mandate is to advance cooperative education and practice through capacity building, research, innovation, leadership development, and support for sustainable livelihoods.

Even more concerning, many of these projects have no clearly stated implementation locations, making citizen oversight and project tracking extremely difficult.

To put this allocation in perspective, the N1.08tn earmarked for FCC Oji River alone is greater than the combined allocations to six key ministries:

🎭 Federal Ministry of Arts - N70.53bn
📡 Federal Ministry of Communications - N85.56bn
⛏️ Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development - N156.84bn
🔐 All six agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior - N723.62bn

This raises important questions:
❓ Why is a cooperative college implementing projects far beyond its statutory mandate?
❓ How were these projects assigned to the institution?
❓ How can citizens track projects with no clearly defined locations?
❓ What accountability mechanisms are in place to ensure value for money?

At a time when Nigeria faces significant fiscal pressures and relies heavily on borrowing to fund public expenditure, public resources must be allocated transparently, strategically, and through institutions with the capacity and legal mandate to deliver results.

A budget item without a clear location, defined beneficiaries, and a responsible implementing agency creates fertile ground for waste, inefficiency, and weak accountability.

In the 2024 FG Budget, N4billion was allocated to the Construction of Student Hostel at FUTA, Ondo state. Out of which, N149.9m was paid to PITCH GLOBAL SERVICES LTD in Dec 2025.

We tracked and report that this project has been abandoned for almost 1year.
Construction was done up to the lintel level, but the structure is now buried in overgrown bushes. Also, contractors, workers or machinery were not found on site.

We call on @NigEducation, the implementing agency, to provide the public with details of this project and facilitate its completion.

When President Trump called us a disgraced country in November last year, a lot of people took it as a fact. They parroted it, amplified it, and spoke in such a distasteful manner about their country. It was shocking at the time, but it’s allowed.

Now that Trump has commended President Tinubu for his decisive leadership, especially regarding cooperation in our counter-terrorism efforts, you all have to maintain the same energy or wear your breastplate of hypocrisy.

Trump’s words cannot be gospel to you when he attacks Nigeria, and you’d suddenly look away or sound dismissive when he commends us.

I had to leave Lagos for Abuja yesterday evening, but I needed to be back in Lagos first thing this morning. So I booked an airline I normally would not fly, purely for their early arrival.

I paid for business class. This morning, they put me in economy and offered a discount on my next flight as compensation. That is the issue. I do not fly this airline. I only flew them this morning because of an unusual schedule.

When a passenger pays for business class and an airline delivers economy, the correct response is simple: refund the difference. @mikeachimugu01 . You are doing a lot of great work, this system must be looked into. It is a scam in my book. They are eating their cake and having it.

Offering me a ‘discount’ on a future flight is not compensation. I don’t feel compensated, I feel cheated. They are keeping my money and calling it a favour.

It may not look like a lot of money. That is not the point. Nobody likes being cheated, and that is exactly how this feels. I hope this changes. Airlines compensate people with cash for flight delays elsewhere, here I can’t even get my money back for being served less than I paid for.

Small things like this get on my nerves.

The 2026 FG budget has a fiscal deficit of N31.45 trillion, representing 46% of the total budget size. Despite this, N8.05 billion has been earmarked for the construction and renovation of places of worship across the Country;
⛪ 7 Churches — N1.91 billion
🕌 52 Mosques — N6.14 billion

At a time when many communities still lack functional primary healthcare centres, quality schools, clean water, and motorable roads, are these the most pressing priorities for scarce public resources?

Faith is important, but government budgets should primarily address citizens' most critical development needs and improve their quality of life.

With increasing debt and limited fiscal space, every naira borrowed and every naira spent should deliver the greatest possible public value.

When you do transatlantic business (shipping goods from across the Atlantic into Nigeria), you get a brutal realization that the bedrock of the Nigerian system is unpredictability in the most frustrating sense.

There is hardly any institutionalized timeline for anything in this country. Government processes that would require documentation from business people never have defined completion dates or predictable timelines. From the time your goods land at the port, almost every prediction is guesswork, depending on your ‘generosity’ or what side of the bed the person handling the next stage.

Your timeline can be affected by the inspecting customs officer, the clearing agent, the terminal operator, the gateman, the food seller, the louts or the burial of the aunty of one of the guys in the chain who has to give the clear. A bird could poop on someone’s car and it will derail your plan by a week at least.

How do we realistically become a trillion-dollar economy when businesses cannot predict, with any reasonable degree of certainty, when a process (automated as they say) will be completed, even when every requirement has been met?

Everywhere you look, uncertainty is in the air. It’s why we can never be a truthful people.

An economy cannot truly thrive where uncertainty is the only constant.

Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon form alliance to end raw cocoa exports

Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon have signed the Abuja Declaration, forming an alliance that aims to end the exports of raw cocoa beans.

Under the pact, the nations are aiming to negotiate with international cocoa buyers as a single bloc controlling about 75 percent of global production.

The four countries signed the declaration on Tuesday at the 2026 cocoa value addition summit in Abuja.
