There's such a soft, muted beauty about the light on a Winter morning, as if Nature is just easing gently into the day, slowly turning up the brightness, unlike the sudden POW of gaudy daybreak in Summer. I couldn’t resist walking through this gate into the misty woodland beyond.
Antoine Moses, a 23-year-old tree planter from Quebec, Canada set a world record by planting 23,060 trees in 24 hours. He’s a real environmentalist, unlike those idiots who block motorways or spill milk in supermarkets.
There’s a particular pleasure in walking through winter woods, when the mist hangs thick and heavy, brushing against your skin, and the silence is broken only by a few solitary birds and your muffled footsteps on the damp, soft ground.
RILKE from Rilke’s Book of Hours. Barrows and Macy trans. It has a notable simplicity. As we take ecological stock a century on, we resist the negative metaphor of rind and leaf, each part of greening life, and the flower is more than death. Earth teaches us differently now.
"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'"
— Lewis Carroll
“I believe in going back to the magic of the earth and the lake, the sky and the universe. That kind of magic. I believe in that kind of religion."
Day 29 of #GenerativeJanuary:
The Jay ❄️🪶🤍 Known to be quite shy here in the UK, that’s why when we do see one it’s all the more special! Absolutely gorgeous corvids!

Oh my GOODNESS I’ve wanted to see this for ages! 🥳 Alders contain tannins that leach into gathering raindrops, dyeing the liquid with colour. The effect is *stunning*. This Alder (Alnus glutinosa) I came across was glinting gold, amber & deep wine red. How beautiful is that! 😍
