For anyone wondering, this movie is DETACHMENT and it’s pure depression.

Adrien Brody is a substitute teacher who avoids attachments because of his own trauma. He takes in a homeless teen named Erica, but the system tears them apart and sends her to a shelter.

Then his student Meredith, who is abused by her dad, views him as her only safe space. When he has to set professional boundaries, it breaks her completely and she ends up taking her own life at school. The ending is just him reading Poem to an empty, destroyed classroom.
