No, but Heyman reporting Cashman is likely to be given a new contract isn’t news nor am I going to get worked up over it because I’ve come to accept the following things.

1. Brian Cashman is essentially the third Steinbrenner brother. He’s the GM until he no longer wants to be the GM.

2. Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t want to be bothered. He has someone running the team that he trusts and knows won’t run his business into the ground.

Now you can either accept those two things as well and root for the laundry or find another team to cheer for because it’s not changing anytime soon.

Regarding emergency alerts: I'm not going to get into a long discussion about this because I've made all these points many times before and little has changed, but anyway, here are the facts as I see them:

- The provincial emergency alerting system and the municipal HFXAlert system have largely been a waste of time so far.

- Small changes have improved these systems slightly, but the state of affairs, particularly regarding delays in alerting, is absolutely unacceptable.

- There are people paid big money to run EMOs, communications departments, etc that should be held accountable for such colossal repeated failures.

- In terms of improvements, here's the key thing, loud and clear: any and all alert systems are useless for emergencies unless they can be activated quickly and 24/7.

- If there isn't someone with their finger on the pulse of emergencies available quickly and 24/7, just shut it all down and admit this was a failure.

- In addition to the timeliness of alerting, there continues to be consistent problems with how they're worded, lack of clear direction, etc.

- Defenders of the system will say "if you want quick alerts you're going to have to deal with rough wording". No, stop making excuses. If I can get the word out quickly and clearly doing this as a hobby, I think it is fair for us as the public to expect timeliness *and* accuracy from highly paid professionals.

- Municipal communications in particular have not meaningfully improved since the Tantallon wildfires. Emergency communications in HRM continues to be a joke.
