Going to start a Thread series on here detailing my takeaways from golf courses that I play over the summer. I’ll toss in some rounds at clubs I caddy at over the summer as well with any good stories or notable guests that accompany me on my walks this summer. 🧵🧵🧵
@Mike_kim714 I’m working towards being more effective moving the ball both ways. Struggling with just a general push off the tee/starting it way more right that I feel aligned to.
Pine Ridge CC - Wickliffe, OH (14/30)
E thru 9. Last tee time was 6:15. I finish at 6:25 and ask to continue to the back (NOT A SOUL IS ON THE BACK). Get told no.
Me: “That’s unfortunate that you won’t allow me to continue playing, why?”
Him: “6:30 will be the last tee time in 2 months when it gets dark at 8:30.”
M: “It gets dark at 8:30 now, I will finish BEFORE the last group you just sent out on the first hole finishes. What’s the problem?”
H: “Can’t. Go home man.”
*me looking through all the BS*
“That’s really unfortunate and I don’t understand your reasoning. What if I walked?”
H: “You have to take a cart here, we have an agreement with the homeowners on the course that there will be no walking allowed.”
M: “Your a public course???”
*absolutely dumbfounded he is tripling down at this point*
H: “You can’t make the turn, you need to leave now and go home.”
M: “I don’t -”
H cuts me off: “GO HOME”
M: “Have a good night, buddy.”
Course was in good shape, greens were quick-ish. Almost all are back to front so need to control spin out there. If you miss a fairway there’s a 60/40 chance you’ll end up some lush rough or on hardpan. Elevation change on 1, 5, and 8 make them challenging even though short.
Course Layout: 6/10
Course Conditions: 7/10
Hospitality: 1/10

Manakiki Golf Course. Willoughby Hills, OH. (79)
Donald Ross design, one of the few notable ones in the area.
Rough walk for the unseasoned, course was in great shape for mid-April. Wet morning, as the course dried greens got firmer and quicker.
Unfortunately, there is not a true range which is a big gripe for the layout this course has, you need all types of shots and it makes it that much harder only having the course itself to warm up with.
Elevation change galore with a few blind tee shots. Was getting negative yardage on some drives with the ball spinning back bc it was so soupy. Can’t wait to play this course later in the year once it has dried out, really feel like it’s getable as long as you have some success off the tee.
@NUCLRGOLF Focus on hitting it to the largest part of the fairway every hole. Just get the ball back in play if you’re in the trees. Don’t blast Driver every hole. Full shots are your friend. Play to the middle of every green and don’t even look at the flag. Always putt before your round.
