Two lives are tied to one decision — and we cannot make the wrong one.

This is the donkey who collapsed while pulling a heavily loaded cart.

Today, he is safe with us.

He is standing again. He is trying to walk again. But his hind legs are still weak and unstable, and one thing is absolutely clear:

This donkey is NOT fit to return to work.

We cannot send him back to a cart. We cannot put weight behind him again. We cannot wait for him to collapse a second time.

But there is another side to this story.

His owner came to our shelter today. He himself has a significant mobility impairment and walks with the help of a crutch.

And this donkey was his means of earning a living.

Since the rescue, he has been calling us repeatedly. He has come to the shelter because he needs his livelihood back.

We understand that.

But the answer cannot be to send this donkey back to work.

So now we have only one humane solution:

We must retire this donkey permanently and provide his owner with a specially adapted motorised cart so he can continue earning without ever depending on a working donkey again.

This is exactly why TAWF created our Second Chance for Working Equines programme.

It is not enough to rescue an exhausted animal for one night and then return him to the same cycle.

We have to break that cycle.

The donkey must stay safe. The owner must still have a way to earn. And another donkey must never be brought in to replace him.

We need your help once again.

This case has already touched thousands of people. You helped his story reach the world when he collapsed.

Now we need you to help us finish his story properly.

Please help us give this donkey the retirement he desperately needs — and give his owner a humane alternative livelihood.

We cannot send him back to work.
We will not send him back to work.

Our newest little family member had a very difficult day yesterday. I am not going to show you those scenes because he was extremely distressed, and I know they would upset many of you too.

But slowly, he is beginning to settle. He is still crying from time to time, but much less than yesterday and this morning, which is a huge relief.

He is very young, so we are bottle-feeding him, and he is also spending time in the nursery with the other little ones. He is beginning to eat alongside them and hopefully, little by little, he will realise that he is safe and no longer alone.

Sadly, money was being demanded even for this tiny baby. In the end, we paid a small amount because we simply could not let him be taken away again. He was far too young and vulnerable, and we could not take that risk.

Now he is with us. He is safe. ❤️

And now he needs a name!

Meet Sunny ☀️

A few weeks ago, this beautiful mother arrived with her puppies after a 10 km journey. She was tied inside a plastic sack, while her babies were carried in bags. Sunny was little more than skin and bones, and her puppies were suffering from severe ringworm and painful skin problems.

We asked you to help us choose a name for her, and we owe you an apology for taking so long to share their update.

Look at them now. ❤️

Sunny is gaining weight, her babies are getting healthier, and this little family is finally happy, safe and healing together.

These are the happy endings we live for—but behind every happy ending are weeks of nutritious food, medicines, veterinary treatment and daily care.

Please help us create more happy endings like Sunny's. 🙏
